“I’ll let you get a few more so this will be a fair fight” [SPOILERS!]

I thought this was a sweet line from Kirk (Pine) and really seemed like something he would say in the context of the scene

"The Trek stuff was for Chris Pine who was accepting the Star of Tomorrow award and was, of course, a Kirk-centric scene, him picking up Uhura at a bar. He asks what she’s studying and she tells him, not thinking he’ll know what exactly it is. He surprises her, saying her study focuses on alien language and culture. She’s impressed, but still sly.

Pine plays Kirk as cocky and a bit drunk. A big dude comes up to Uhura and asks if she’s being bothered by this guy and she says very much so, but she can handle him. Kirk gets into the meathead’s face… like I said, cocky. The big guy’s friends come up and he says something like, “What’re you going to do? There are four of us.” And Kirk responds with a “I’ll let you get a few more so this will be a fair fight” and gets a punch in the mouth for it. He smiles as he grabs his bleeding chin and then fights back, taking the big dude out.

Pine was pretty good, I thought. He was certainly not imitating Shatner, but had the charm. I’m interested to see what exactly he brings to the full picture."

I dunno, it seems kinda like it has been done before... somehow, trash talking good guys are rarely witty to me in modern movies.

Maybe the star Trek universe has relaised that diplomacy isn't always the best policy and to just fire, (or hit back) instead of just giving repeated warnings. :)

Maybe Kirk could have done a Picard by yelling out "conference evaluation!" and retreating to the men's room with his opponents to plan out the fight. ;)

I dunno, maybe Shatner's Kirk helped create that stereotype? In the 60s if you were ever in a fight, the three fictional men you'd want in your corner were Bond, Kirk, and any given Frank Sinatra character, all of whom just exuded dashing arrogant cool in the face of danger.

At about eighteen seconds someone says "You're captain now, Mr. Kirk."

Very "Top Gun-ish" feeling to this ad.

Let us reflect that "Top Gun" was a better made film than most "Star Trek" films, as well as far more successful and therefore more influential on Hollywood film making than any of them.

Heard that - but it doesn't synch up with the scenes... whoa.

Now what about that - Obviously, that line came from an instructor - not a battlefield edict. The scene in which Kirk takes the chair in other trailers is silent. I wonder if we've been reading that particular shot wrong, and it's from a training exercise.
