Lowering sea level.
All this talk of sea level rise got me to thinking about how we could sort it so I came up with an awesome idea that I think has merit.
All you do is go to the south pole and build a load of water pumps, the pumps take water from the seas around Antarctica and pump it all onto the surface of the Antarctic continent, all the way to the centre. As the water is deposited the water turns to ice. Would work right? If we pumped enough water and lowered the sea level enough we could literall reclaim land!!!!! The Netherlands would be laughing!!!! |
Re: Lowering sea level.
Probably it would. After which the waste heat generated in the process would melt down the rest of the ice. :)

Just make Al Gore drink it.

Re: Lowering sea level.
Send it to Mars. They seem to have a deficit.

Re: Lowering sea level.
Actually Ive learned from watching Ice Road F uckers that if you did that it would probably make the ice that is there brittle and may even end up cracking it all over the place. This may or may not cause the pieces to float away...

Re: Lowering sea level.
Inevitably, you would get massive glacial mass moving toward the ocean and calving off to form icebergs.
Icebergs drift north and melt, thus restoring the sea level. Remember, the great southern continent gets less than 10 inches of precipitation a year. Is is a frozen desert. Pumping literally billions of tons of sea water onto the continent would cause massive and probably unforseeable environmental changes around the world |
Re: Lowering sea level.
What if we all left our faucets dripping all the time?

Re: Lowering sea level.
If we can get these huge saucer-shaped motherships, and humanoids in shades and orange jumpsuits to visit our solar system, they'll volunteer to take away all our excess water. Don't worry, the visitors are our friends.

Re: Lowering sea level.
Ok, how about we dig a huge deep hole in northern Greenland, line it with water proof material and start pumping loads of water into it and then cover it over?

Re: Lowering sea level.
you have to understand that about 71% of the earth's surface is water, and moving enough water to lower the sea level would be almost impossible
it would be like trying to lower the level of an olympic swimming pool by using a shot glass to pour water into a cooler even if we did manage to transport enough water to Antarctica, the water would most likely not freeze, but instead melt all the antarctic ice . . . and then fill up the ocean even more |
Re: Lowering sea level.
What about my second idea? That has merit right?

Design and build huge drills and drill them into the Earths surface, dig several thousand holes under the seas and the water will fill all the holes up lowering the sea levels? |

The Netherlands now The Netherlands how it would look without water management |
