Pegg Talks More 'Star Trek XI'

Getting back to what made Star Trek good in the first place will make for a better film according to Simon Pegg.
As reported by Hardcore Nerdity, Star Trek XI will only reinvigorate the franchise. Star Trek XI, like other films which have rebooted such as Batman Begins and Casino Royale, will benefit when it goes back to its roots. "['Star Trek XI' is] very much about getting back to what made it good in the first place," said Pegg. "That's what both those films have done, in 'Casino Royale' and 'Batman Begins', they stripped it back down to the beginning and what appealed at the very conception."
According to Pegg, over time, a franchise like Star Trek can become too bloated. "What happens with things that exist for a long time is they become augmented," he said, "and gimmicky, and things change, and they kind of...they're added to and added to and added to, to try and make them better, and it ends up just toppling over, under the weight of its own sort of self-parody, whereas this is really getting back to it."
Pegg reassured fans that Star Trek XI would be worth the viewing. "I know there's some consternation within the fanbase, but they're gonna see new 'Star Trek' with the original cast," he said. "I don't know what's not to be f---ing excited about! I am, and I'm in it. And it's in the hands of a person who really cares about it. We had advisors on-set the whole time. If we needed to know what happened on a...if there was an away mission, and only a certain amount of people went, then who carried the tricorder, we got it all from the people that really know."
There will be things in Star Trek XI for the long-term fans. "...J.J. [Abrams] was absolutely at pains to make sure that it's totally and utterly...and there's a lot in it for the fan. There's a lot of little ironies in there that you'll pick up on if you know the series, and you know the mythology. It's going to be crackin'!"
Star Trek XI will of course be influenced by Abrams's vision of what it should be, but that is not a bad thing. "Obviously, J.J.'s 'Star Trek' is going to be...it's going to have J.J.'s stamp on it," said Pegg. "It'll be like, it'll be contemporary, and gritty, but it'll be...it's very much 'Star Trek'. The bridge was the bridge, it was incredible, but somehow it didn't look like it was built in the '60s. The production design was so cleverly pitched, in that it was completely credible, but still very much like you'd expect. It's very clever. I don't know if I should have said that!"
To hear the rest of the interview, head to the podcast located here. Right now, all I want is for these people to just admit it's a reboot.
No sidestepping these questions with BS answers like "The will enjoy it" or "You'll have to see the movie for yourself".
It shouldn't take much effort to just admit it.

That should have read "The fans will enjoy it".

You know, Edward James Olmos warned fans of the original BSG that the new version has nothing in common with the original and the fans of the original probably shouldn't watch the new one.
I want something like that from one of these guys.

I find the excitement of all the cast and crew to be infectious!! They all seem to think the fans will like it. Why is that a bad thing?? I think it's great and I'm looking forward to it!!

Yes, I'm sure these people know exactly what all Trek fans feel about this movie.

And what I mean all, I mean every single Trek fan.
Not just the majority.

So, does he actually say what he thinks Star Trek is, that can be got back to?

I'm too lazy to listen to the podcast/suspicious that it will be more hot air and not worth listening to. :p

It's a prequel. Sanitized by J.J. Abrams for your protection.
