'Star Trek XI' Command Uniform

<font color=yellow>Chris Pine</font> let drop a bit about the command uniform for <i>Star Trek XI</i> in a recent interview. <p>As reported by <A class="link" HREF="http://scifipulse.net">Sci Fi Pulse</A>, the command uniforms worn by Kirk, Sulu and Chekov will the familiar gold color of the original series era <i>Star Trek</i>. Pine was discussing Captain Kirk and said, "if you see that gold shirt, you know what youre looking at." <p>When asked directly if Kirk would be wearing Gold in the movie, Pine said, "Oh yes. I've probably given something away by saying that, but I'm so tired at this point, but you know its really funny because just the other day it was an imaginary ship in Burbank, but it does feel good and it was a real honor being asked to do it."<p>According to a report at <A class="link" HREF="http://trekmovie.com">TrekMovie</A>, other cast members will be wearing the colors associated with their departments in the original series era. Scotty, Uhura and others in engineering, security and communications will wear red; Spock, McCoy and others in medical and science will wear blue, and command will wear gold. <p>Working on <i>Star Trek XI</i> was enjoyable for Pine and he feels that fans will enjoy the movie. "It is fantastic. I had a lot of fun," he said. "I think the movie that J.J. [Abrams], Bob [Orci] and Alex [Kurtzman] wrote, and I got a chance to participate in, is really good. People will be surprised at how good it is. It's pretty spine-tingling."<p>To read more, head to the articles located <A class="link" HREF="http://scifipulse.net/?p=818">here</A> and <A class="link" HREF="http://trekmovie.com/2008/07/31/star-trek-movie-uniform-spoilers/">here</A>.<center></center>

Of course it should be noted, Uhura was wearing gold in the first couple of episodes of the original series.... Sulu was in blue in astrophysics etc... interesting to see if they address those "career path" changes at all!

Well, or that the ribbed-neck uniforms more or less of the Pike era were worn in "Where No Man Has Gone Before." Given that they're supposed to be "re-tooling" elements of TOS, I never expected things to be entirely consistent, though I suppose, among other possibilities, that the principle action of the "early" days of the Enterprise crew could happen somewhere after Uhura's gold uniform period.

I don't care what color their shirts are, as long as it's a good movie.

Yes that is good news.

As so, let the next ten months of hearing about how great this movie is going to be continue.
"JJ made a great movie."
"Bob and Alex wrote a fantastic movie."
and... repeat

I doubt it, as only a pathetically select few of their audience will give the tiniest crap, and a much larger percentage would be very confused. In my opinion, the differences in WNMHGB should be ignored as 'pilot' error.

I agree. It's almost Brent-Spiner tingling.

Since they are bothering to call it Star Trek, and haven't flat out claimed that this is a "re-imaging" like nuBSG, I'd kind of prefer that the holistic experience kinda "feel" like Star Trek.

I'm an engineer. So if I was in Starfleet, my shirt would be red. That means I would be transported to some planet and at some point be killed.

I am a bit concerned with all I have heard that they are going for the 'kewl' factor and not the 'creating a convincing environment' factor.

For all of its faults, early TOS managed to get that idea across... I am hoping that the movie will do so as well.

...what? I've re-read that sentence several times and still have no idea what he's saying. What does an "imaginary ship" have to do with uniforms? What's funny? It was an honor to do what?
