Lilyan Chauvin Passes Away
<font color=yellow>Lilyan Chauvin</font>, veteran film and television actress, passed away on Thursday, June 26 in Studio City, California.<p>As reported by <A class="link" HREF=""></A>, the actress known to <i>Star Trek: Deep Space Nine</i> fans as Vedek Yassim (<i>Rocks and Shoals</i>) succumbed after a forty-year battle with breast cancer. Congestive heart disease also contributed to her death.<p>Chauvin was born August 6, 1925 in Paris, France. On her twenty-first birthday, she moved to New York and began to appear in New York television productions. From New York, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career.<p>With a career spanning nearly six decades, Chauvin appeared in over one hundred and twenty television and film appearances, including shows and movies such as: <i>Baa Baa Black Sheep</i>, <i>Frasier</i>, <i>The Young and the Restless</i>, <i>Falcon Crest</i>, <i>Silent Night, Deadly Night</i>, <i>Private Benjamin</i>, <i>Catch Me If You Can</i>, <i>Yours, Mine and Ours</i>, <i>Funny Lady</i> and <i>Star Trek: Deep Space Nine</i>.<p>Her guest appearance on <i>Baa Baa Black Sheep</i> garnered her an Emmy Award nomination and she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for her work on an episode of <i>The Young and the Restless</i> soap opera.<p>Chauvin was also a writer, director, acting and directing coast. She was the creator, showrunner and host of the instructional series <i>Hollywood Structured</i>, a guide to show business careers which explored new facets of the industry each week through interviews with top professionals.<p>A memorial service will be held for Chauvin on Saturday, August 16th at 11 A.M. at the Director's Guild of America.<p>To read more, head to the article located <A class="link" HREF="">here</A>.<center></center>

This is an actor whose name I should have known better. Her face is as distinct as her roles, even if most were not recurring characters. A recurring role I would have enjoyed was Vedek Yasim. She does stick out in your mind. A very strong character who I wished we had seen more of. I was as shocked as the characters when Yissim hung herself on the DS9 Promenade.

I followed that link to Miss Chauvin's blogspot and her influence in the acting world was far more pronounced than I had any idea of. I wonder who we know that learned acting skills under her tutelage?
