Takei Sets The Date

<font color=yellow>George Takei</font> will marry in September with some <i>Star Trek</i> alumni participating and in attendance.<p>As reported by <A class="link" HREF="http://www.people.com">People</A>, September 14 will be the day when Takei and his partner <font color=yellow>Brad Altman</font> tie the knot. Two of his former cast-mates will be in the wedding party. "The best man is my colleague from 'Star Trek', Walter Koenig, who played Chekov, and the matron of honor is (Lt.) Uhura, Nichelle Nichols," said Takei.<p>Another famous <i>Star Trek</i> actor will be there. "Leonard (Nimoy) and his wife Susan are on the (guest) list."<p>Takei and Altman have been together for twenty-one years, and the ruling from the California State Supreme Court cleared the way for them to plan their nuptials. "We knew that the Supreme Court was going to be coming down with their ruling (legalizing gay marriage)," said Takei. "So I was planning on asking Brad to get married."<p>But Altman beat him to the punch. "We were at home in the kitchen and we had the TV going, and when the word came down suddenly Brad got on his knees in front of me and I said 'What are you doing?' He said, 'George, will you marry me?' I said 'Yes. You beat me to it. I meant to ask you.'"<p>The wedding will be held at the Japanese-American National Museum in Los Angeles and will be a formal affair. Several details will reflect their personal tastes as well as their backgrounds. Scottish bagpipes will play during the ceremony at which a Mexican-American Buddhist minister will officiate. The wedding rings will be Native American turquoise and silver. The wedding dinner will feature fusion Japanese-Mexican cuisine.<p>To read more, head to the article located <A class="link" HREF="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20203817,00.html">here</A>.<center></center>

Good for them.

"fusion Japanese-Mexican cuisine"

That puts me in mind of a famous Motown song on the same subject:

You Beat Me To The Punch-Mary Wells

That day I first saw you
Whoa-whoa, passing by
I wanted to know your name
But I-I was much too shy

But I was looking (lookin') at you so hard
Until you must have had a hunch
(You must have had a hunch)
So, you came up to me
And asked me my name

You beat me to the punch
(You beat me to the punch) that time
You beat me to the punch
(You beat me to the punch)
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
You beat me to the punch
(You beat me to the punch)

Oh-oh-whoa, after I hadn't known you
For what seems like a long, long, time
I wanted, wanted to ask you
Would you please, please be mine?

Whenever you came around
(You came) my heart would pound
So, you must have had a hunch
(You must have had a hunch)
So, you came up to me
You asked me to be yours

You beat me to the punch
(You beat me to the punch) one more time
You beat me to the punch
(You beat me to the punch)
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
You beat me to the punch, yeah
(You beat me to the punch)

Since I love you
I thought you would be true
And love me tender
So, I let my heart surrender to you-hoo
Yes, I did

But I found out beyond a doubt
One day boy, you were a playboy
Who would go away
And leave me, blue-ooo

So, I ain't gonna wait around (go around)
For you to put me down (what you oughta do)
This time I'm gonna play my hunch
(I'll be here, you can blame my stunt)
Then walk away this very day

And beat you to the punch
(And beat you to the punch) this time (go!)
I'll beat you to the punch, yes I will (go!)
(I'll beat you to the punch)

FADES-

Let you know, now
(I'll beat you to the punch) how little it feels
(Why don't you)
Ho-ho-ho
(I'll beat you to the punch)
Ho-ho-ho.:):D:beer:

It's kinda creepy to have Chekov and Uhura as Best Man and Matron of Honor.

Sounds like a fanboy wedding.

Have George and Brad not made any other significant contacts in the last forty years?

Considering the circumstances, it should probably be the other way around.

But, congradulations George.

At least they're not going to be dressed up as Klingons.

Right?
