Some of you may remember that I wasn’t overly impressed by Mike Johnson’s attempt at a Star Trek comic last month, with his pointless, empty tale of a ‘verse where everything has occurred exactly the same except the gender roles were reversed, so instead of James Kirk for example, we got Jane Kirk, or instead of Khan we got erm… Khan (albeit told that he was a she); it frustrated me and came across as rather pathetic and, in my mind, a little demeaning to the Trek fan.

With all of the above in mind, I wasn’t overly keen on taking up issue 30; I was, to be brutally honest, considering jumping straight to issue 31 and hoping the next tale would wash this bitter taste fro...

Yeah, I agree with your review. This was a 2-issue non-story. Terrible.

The artwork was pretty good, though.

Yeah, it really was a non-story. Nothing happens.

Very much a filler duolody. Nothing too exciting, which is frustrating when having the 2 Kirks meet could have been a growth experience. missed potential.

A page from this issue is highlighted in ComicsAlliance's "Best Sequential Art Ever (This Week)" feature:

Apparently the story involves a crossover between multiple universes, and they're continuing to rely on the "Infinite universes = every possible random thing happens" premise.

This series just made me sigh.

I mean, not every storyline can be fantastic, but this just struck me as both mindnumbingly dull AND stupid.

Two issue stories always seem pretty weak to me. The first issues building up to something often aren't too bad but the resolutions have to be too basic to tie everything up in a bow. The longer ones have been so much better. I wish they would learn from that.

Yeah, 3 to 5 seems to be the sweet spot. Any longer and threads get frayed or the series just feels a bit overstretched.

I liked it, if a bit short. Jane Kirk seemed to be bit like Kathryn Janeway in that conference room scene. I thought that the interaction between Pavel and Pavelona to be cute, and I thought that the comparisons that Spock and Fem!Spock (I would have used the name "T'Spock" for Fem!Spock) were making, vis-a-vis their respective relationships with their Uhura/o was priceless. And I thought that the two Scotty(s) we're funny. I wished that the two Sulu(s) and McCoy(s) had interacted more. I am surprised that the two Kirk(s) didn't, well, you know... ;)

If there is one real complaint, Fem!Khan should have been called "Rani", which is the female equivalent to "Khan". And I would have thrown in a "Doctor Who" joke in for good measure. Guys, do your homework.

Anyway, good entertainment, but a little lite in the resolution. Good luck for next time.
