Playing with Sketchup again....

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/20...ip-d75cf50.jpgInspired by Tony (LordSarvain), I built my own TOS ship to patrol the borders of Federation territory. :) She is not finishid yet, of course!

In sketchup, right click, smooth. Make that dish look good.

Nice! I like the elongated, linear flow of the 'main hull' back over the nacelle in your design.

Were you inspired by Lordsarvain's corvette?

I gotta try Sketchup. I'll never be able to afford a real 3D program like 3DS

Just give it a try Forbin! Youll be surprised with the results you can have in a few hours (yes, hours!). And you can do good renderings using the free software named Kirkythea (therefore, I still didnt play with this one). ;)

Re: Playing with Sketchup again....

You need a separate program to render with, is that correct? Sketchup doesn't render by itself?

Re: Playing with Sketchup again....

Correct. Kerkythea is a free rendering program. It just has terrible documentation.

Truth to be told, after years of using Sketchup I sort of regret it. While it has a great learning curve, it also uses an entirely different methodology from other 3d software such as Blender. It makes it very hard to "relearn" how to use most other software. From a long term point of view you are better off taking the harder road of learning Blender first.

Re: Playing with Sketchup again....

I learned 3D with the Amiga, with Sculpt 3D and Caligari TruSpace. Lately I've been fiddling with our copy of 3DS at work, but I admit that while I know all the basics, I've never managed anything that could be called advanced in all these years of playing around. I just find 3D difficult.
