Would a Trek movie about a Space Station work?

I'm not necessarily talking about a DS9 movie, but a space station in general. Would the audience reject it and get confused that the movie isn't set aboard the Enterprise?

How about doing Larry Niven's 'Ringworld'. Almost the same thing. I thought avery Brooks would push for a DS9 movie or Ira Stevens Behr but they moved on. how long can you stay in the same place? Even Sisko wanted to move on. Unless you want to reimagine a nu DS9 in the Abramsverse with a new possibly younger Sisko on say DS1 like Commodore Stone from 'The Court Marshal'. People are bound sooner or later to see anything with space ships and explosions and great SFX. Especially since Star Wars is coming and looming on the horizon to try to swallow Nu Trek whole with better stories.

Gee, how I would've loved a DS9 movie rather than Nemesis. :(

If it's well-made and marketed, I think it could work.

Would a Trek movie about a Space Station work? I don't think so.

Would a movie about a Space Station work? Possibly.

It would totally fail. Doesn't matter what it's about, who's in it, how it's written, how it's directed, how entertaining it is. As soon as it is NOT on the Enterprise, it's a total failure. The audience would be so confused, you'd have millions of people completely disoriented on the streets. Memory loss, blurred vision, skin irritations.

I think a Trek movie set on a space station could work, but only if it was a Starfleet-built and operated design, had its own assigned starship like DS9 had, and was very action-oriented. It would also have to be easily recognized as being part of the Star Trek universe (familiar uniforms, props, aliens, etc.).

When the day comes for the Abramsverse cast to hang up their Starfleet uniforms, I could see a spinoff movie with the abovementioned elements in that era. The Enterprise (as well a member of her crew) could even make a brief appearance in a passing-of-the-torch manner.

Movies in confined, stationary places work.

Work as in being good? Yes.
Work as in being a mass appeal blockbuster? No.

You would have to have a slower, more character-driven story on a space station, and that just doesn't work on the sort of zap-'em-ups Star Trek movies are more often than not.

Maybe as another series it could be really great, but I don't think it's likely to happen in the next decade.

Sure as long as you've got a good story, acting, dialog, etc. Die Hard mainly took place inside an office building and that worked just fine.

I love how there's this assumption that we're all stupid and can't understand there can be more than one setting in the same universe. :p

The only problem with pulling a new station and crew out of nowhere would be you'd spend half of the movie defining the setting and introducing the crew. Not that it's a bad thing, but just how it is.

Sure it's great to boldly go and meet new aliens, but it was DS9 more than any other series that really focused upon and defined the aliens in their area, giving them a measure of depth.

Not a Star Trek movie. The audience is too stupid. They'd be dazed and confused.

A sci-fi movie in general could work though.

Audience too stupid ?

I don't think we give audiences enough credit.
