Janeway vs. Nero

What if, instead of appearing 150 years in the past on the Klingon border, Nero's ship emerged from the black hole in the Delta Quadrant, a mere decade or so in the past, right in Voyager's path?

"This is Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation starship Voyager."

"Hi Kathryn, I'm Nero..."

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

Is this before or after Scorpion?

If before Janeway would find some way not only to defeat Nero, but to restore Romulus. If after, it would be a two-part episode where all the senior Voyager staff beams aboard the Narada, steal technology from it, disable the ship, and at the end of the episode find the stolen technology is unusable with their systems.

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

Seems to me the ship 150 years from the future that tore all Federation ships a new one would actually be rudimentary in Voyager's time, only what... 10 years or so in the past, and should be able to defeat them easily.

What is this, Weird Thread Day? Third Nacelle shuffles crews around between shows, and now you have Janeway meets Nero?

It depends on at what point Nero appears in Voyager's present. If it's during "Endgame" after Admiral Janeway's modifications are installed, Nero goes poof.

If Nero shows up during "Year of Hell", Annorax detects an anomaly, traces it to Narada, and Nero goes poof.

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

Seven would use her nanoprobes to infiltrate the computer system, download all the future information that could allow them to find a way home, all whilst Voyager engages Nero's and (despite being a fraction of the size and severely out-gunned) manages to hold their own. Once Seven is done, she downloads a computer virus that causes the ship to destroy itself, leaving Voyager with all the advanced information for them to study and maybe shave a few years off their journey.

Then Janeway presses the reset button and it is never mentioned again.

But in true Voyager fashion, next episode where that information might prove useful they'll forget they even had it.

Janeway would go out with a giant fork in her chest.

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

Janeway would win, for gods sake she's fighting a mining vessel from just 10 years in the future not one from over a century in the future when all her weapons would be toys to the other guys, she'd have to be all kinds of incompetent to lose.

However she would defeat him it would involve large amounts of coffee!

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

Janeway would point out that red goop does not increase the mass of Romulus so it makes no sense that it would absorb the planet before people had the chance to evacuate because a black hole with the mass of one planet would absorb the planet very slowly, not affecting the gravity at a fixed radius from the center.

Yup. Damn that reset button on Janeway's console!

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

Nero was a easily manipulated moron, with a powerful weapon system. Janeway would have baited him into a position where she could have either destroyed him, or better still strip him of his only asset, the Narda.

Maroon him and his crew somewhere.

*****

And if Nero emerged in the delta quad, he never would have captured Spock's ship, and would have never acquired any red matter, so he would only have his ship's original weapons.

No red matter.

:)

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

Nero didn't have a powerful weapon.

He had an advanced tool.

Janeway has weapons.

Just as advanced.

Many of them.

Actually...

Judging from how broken down Nero's ship seemed, Nero's Derrick might have had 4 or 5 decades on Voyager and yet it's still a century ahead of Kirk's Enterprise.

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

The Narada was five-miles long and armed to the teeth. Voyager would've been no more capable of holding off a surprise attack than the Kelvin was.

Re: Janeway vs. Nero

The Narada was a mining vessel on steroids, as I remember from the comic books. It was secretly upgraded with Borg technology found in a derelict cube somewhere at the edge of the Beta Quadrant, in a facility called The Vault. Anyway; since Voyager was able to defend against the Borg thanks to Seven of Nine's expertise with knowning / hacking their systems they'd probably be successful in - if not defeating Nero - making it alive at least.
