ENTER: Misc Avatar Contest: Holes In The Ground
And here, as the dawn breaks, appears the newest Misc Avatar Contest: "Holes In The Ground." Inspired by the recent meteorite impact in Russia ("In Russia, meteorites come to you!"), we will celebrate punctures in the epidermis of our Earth. The orifice of your choice can be of any variety: A cavern, a canyon, a wishing well or a gopher hole. It can be natural or man-made, big or small, beautiful or terrifying, shallow or deep (so to speak). Go to it, you avatar-makers, you.
(A word of caution: Any contestants who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, please double check before posting! ) To get us started off, a picture I myself took with my very own uncle's camera back in 1993: http://home.comcast.net/~RJDiogenes/...randCanyon.jpg |

Interesting idea for a theme!
I've found a picture of someone standing at THE BOTTOM of the Cave of Swallows: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b4...ps304bd00d.gif If it doesn't present the whole hole well enough I could be persuaded to enter an image of someone hanging from a rope in the same cave: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b4...ps525c26b4.jpg |

Re: ENTER: Misc Avatar Contest: Holes In The Ground
interesting theme...especially since, 2 days ago, a sinkhole opened up in this guy's bedroom and swallowed him and his bed. Wish I had saved that picture now......anyways, I can't wait to see what everyone else chooses.

Once again, several options came to mind:
1. Vulgar http://i.imgur.com/Zz6URUV.jpg 2. Nerdy http://i.imgur.com/Sy9L21G.jpg 3. Creative http://i.imgur.com/ddK7lF9.jpg 4. Awe-inspiring (look closely, there's a person in that picture) http://i.imgur.com/3raGOrJ.jpg What to do?! |

Also: Oops. My picture was taken in 1991. Don't know what I was thinking.

Re: ENTER: Misc Avatar Contest: Holes In The Ground
I'd go with number 2 :)

Re: ENTER: Misc Avatar Contest: Holes In The Ground
The biggest man-made hole in the world is pratically in my back yard. It used to be a mountain. It's so big it doesn't really translate well to av size, but what the hell.

Re: ENTER: Misc Avatar Contest: Holes In The Ground
^During my research for this round I saw a number of not entirely dissimilar images... don't they all look incredibly inviting? - I just want to dive into them and never again have to surface for air.....

The large crater is Daedalus. It's on the far side of the moon and the picture was taken during the Apollo 11 mission. I haven't found the name of the smaller crater. |
