The new Jar Jar
Is it me or is Keenser going to end up as our (Trek fans) Jar Jar?
I didn't care for him the first time out. Maybe they'll develop him more this time out. But I'm not holding my breath. |
Re: The new Jar Jar
I was one that never found Jar Jar annoying. That's just me. I am glad to see Keenser back.

Re: The new Jar Jar
Unless he becomes a permanent member of the bridge crew, I don't see where he'll be on screen long enough to be seriously annoying (to anyone inclined to find him thus). Jar-Jar was a much more central character (sadly, in my opinion, but that's me) than Keenser is ever likely to be.

Re: The new Jar Jar
Keenser was never annoying (to anyone but Scotty  ). I mean, what did he actually DO in the film that was so bad? Whack Scotty on the back of the head? Say "Me"? Climb up on the engineering console? None of that's even close to the Jar-Jar level of annoyance.
I mean, Keenser actually had a job which he was good at. And he didn't say much. What's wrong with that? |

:bolian:
Not a SW fan myself. But viewing Jar Jar out of context, I found him to be annoying. But then again, that's my opinion. Maybe Keenser will get developed more and this thread will be moot. |
Re: The new Jar Jar
Keenser is fantastic.

Re: The new Jar Jar
That's a terrible comparison. Jar Jar was not only hideously annoying, but he was everywhere in The Phantom Menace. Seriously, he was inescapable. Keenser is just kinda there, doing his thing (whatever that is), and certainly not for long. Heck, he doesn't even have any real lines, so how on earth can you compare him to Jar Jar?

Re: The new Jar Jar
Jesus Christ, we've seen him for, what, three minutes?
|
Re: The new Jar Jar
True. Screen time was minimal. I just found his presence not so much annoying as just unneeded. Again, just my opinion.

Re: The new Jar Jar
Keenser is relatively inoffensive. He's just a comic relief character who is used exactly as much as he should be and his few moments in the movie are actually funny/silly/whatever. Jar Jar was shoved down our throats from the word GO in Phantom Menace and never EVER brought a smile to anyone over the age of or with an IQ over 5.

Re: The new Jar Jar
This character has always reminded me of a very strange last sentence uttered by Kirk at the ending of Plato's Stepchildren.
He is bringing Alexander up to the Enterprise and he says to Scotty: Quote:
Could Scotty be heartbroken over the loss of a old friend who happened to be a short little alien and Kirk is hoping to cheer him up? That is the first thing I thought of when I saw Keenser and Scott together. |

Re: The new Jar Jar
Keenser is nowhere near approaching the Jar Jar Annoyance Factor. His presence in the first film seemed only to give Scott someone to talk to for the 6 months (or whatever) they were alone in the facility. We still hardly know anything about him, except that his species may form strong emotional bonds to other individuals, as evidenced by his sadness when Scott and Kirk left. For a small species, they seem adept at climbing objects. Hopefully these traits will be used if they ever give him some important plot-related actions.
It was nice to see Deep Roy still working, I started noticing his name in the early 80s. |
