The ultimate episode ranking thread
 

We’ve rated episodes with threads like Hurt/Heal and top episode lists.

This is intended to be the ultimate TOS episode ratings thread. You rate all the episodes (or all the episodes you want to) and post your ratings in this thread. When we have enough participants, they’ll be analyzed with the Shulze method to produce a communal ranking.


HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Post your ballot in this thread. Each line of your ballot consists of a score followed by an episode title. Scores range from a low of 1 (the worst episodes) to whatever top score you choose. The only information taken from your ballot is relative preferences, so use whatever scale is most comfortable for you.

If there is an episode that you have not seen or on which you do not have an opinion, you may either leave it out of your ballot or use a dash (-) for the score.

Example #1:

Alice has seen ten episodes of TOS. She chooses a 3-point scale where 3 is good, 2 is average, and 1 is poor. Her ballot looks like this:

Bob has seen ten episodes. He chooses a top score of 100 and gives a complete ranking with this ballot:

Charlie grades episodes:

Include the line “truncate” for a truncated ballot. Episodes not on the ballot are scored below episodes on the ballot.

Example #4:

David has seen the whole series but just knows his favorites:

Simple as that!

You may replace your ballot at any time if you change your mind, want to rate episodes that you had not previously rated, or want to change your ballot for any reason. To do so, simply post your new ballot. Please don’t go back and edit old ballots, because the edits may go unnoticed and the changes uncounted.

Golly, this is really snazzy! I will participate, but this ballot will take at least a few days, maybe even a week. k? :)

I'm reading up on the Schulze method now. Looks fascinating.

More than k. :bolian: Rating 79 episodes is naturally going to take more time than picking a top 10. Take all the time you need. There’s no deadline. I’ll update results on a regular basis as long as ballots keep coming in.

Question. Although it seemed to be implied that the answer to this is "yes", I just want to be sure. There can be gaps in my scale right? For example, my top score could be 1000. Right?

Also, captrek, you should lobby to get this thread pinned.

Good question. The answer is yes. I'll edit the examples above to demonstrate that.

I was thinking about that. I decided it would be premature to ask before more people have shown an interest.

Yes, there is still plenty of time.

My original plan was to pin the thread and periodically update the results as votes continue to trickle in. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been enough interest to justify asking for the pin, so the election will end when the thread dies its natural death.

With only two non-sample ballots in so far (my own and jk82’s), there’s little point to a tally. If and when we get a few more ballots, I’ll post a tally and update it as needed.

For personal reasons, I probably won’t be around much for the next week or so.
