World War Z premiere to coincide with end of the world

WWZ opens on December 21, 2012, the date of the Mayan end of the world.

Damn, I'm going to have to decide what to do: go to this movie or to the big party in Las Vegas where His Satanic Majesty is set to make his grand entrance from the volcano at The Mirage...

Well, if the concession stand offers real human brains for snacks, they might sell a lot of tickets to the zombies.

Nah, the film will be perceived as anti-zombie propaganda. They'll boycott it with large picket signs.

^ I would read the book, along with with it's companion guide "The Zombie Survival Guide" which Max Brooks wrote before WWZ. Then I'd listen to the audio drama which is fantastic.

Brings new meaning to "finger foods."

Man imagine coming out of the movie theater as a real zombie outbreak happened.

No, I can't imagine, because zombies are a completely fictional concept with a zero chance of ever happening. Ever.

Yes. I am a party pooper. :p

Definitely, read it before the movie. I doubt they'll be able to cover all the vignettes in the book (it's essentially a collection of short-story "memoires" from the zombie wars.)

Believe me, that will get posted fast the minute it shows up! :rommie:

The novel takes a great approach - every chapter is a different person recounting their role in the zombie wars. There's a huge range of types, experiences, geographic areas, and no doubt the movie will have to focus on four or five at most. The characters don't know each other and their stories don't really intersect. It just creates a huge mosaic of a global event.

Re: World War Z premiere to coincide with end of the world

World War Z is written in a multiple points of view, documentary interview style and covers the entire war period, from case zero through the aftermath. The interviewees are from different walks of life and all around the world.

It is, quite frankly, the best zombie novel I have read and probably my favorite fiction title. While a good two hour adaption could possibly be made, it will necessarily have to abridge roughly 85% of the material, if it uses any of it at all. (I fully expect "inspired by".)

The zombie survival guide is much less interesting though. Some versions have a historical section at the end that is pretty good. However the primary section reads exactly like a real survival guide, and is about as entertaining. What it is good for is setting the rules for Brook's zombies. It might also make for an interesting case study if you like to analyze writing techniques (specifically, how he adapted zombies into a fairly lengthy and legitimate sounding guide).
