Expensive tickets
My son recently paid for two tickets to a wrestling match that will be held in Brisbane next February. The tickets are platinum tickets and are front row and right next to the ramp that the wrestlers will come down.
The tickets cost him $275 each plus a booking fee. Now I am frugal (some people might say stingy) with money and I can't imagine myself paying $275 for any entertainment event. So I am going to ask people here what is/are the most expensive ticket/s you have bought for any concert, sporting event etc? |
Re: Expensive tickets
$171 for a VIP ticket for a "Music of Battlestar Galactica" concert in San Diego. Later found out I could have bought the much cheaper $60 regular ticket and had virtually the same experience. Live and learn.
Was worth it, though. A couple other folks from the TrekBBS were there, and so was Edward James Olmos. |
Re: Expensive tickets
I don't think I've ever paid more than $80 for any kind of event.

Re: Expensive tickets
About 20 years ago, I paid $200 for two front-row center tickets to The Rolling Stones.
The only negative thing that happened that night was that the Counting Crows were the opening act. Miserable sacks of shit. Joe, who got much nookie that night |
Re: Expensive tickets
I've probably spend almost $100 of a couple of the NFL games I've attended, but it's certainly not common. My biggest annual ticket expenditure is a "brass pass" to the New Orleans Jazz Festival. It's $400 next year but it covers a seven day event.

Re: Expensive tickets
I can't recall the exact amount, but I think I paid about £45 for a ticket to see Patrick Stewart in Macbeth in the London West End a couple of years back. Currency convertor tells me this is about US$71 or AUS$78. Looking at how much your son paid for his tickets, Miss N Thrope, I can't see myself paying that much!

Re: Expensive tickets
I bought a ticket off a scalper for $100 about 10 years ago. It was for a Stephen Hawking lecture. I'm a nerd.

Not only did he pay for the tickets but he has spent nearly $400 for ihis return airline ticket to Brisbane. However he will be staying with his best friend (who moved to Brisbane about 4 years ago). They have been friends since they were children. It will be my son's second trip to Brisbane - he previously travelled there to be best man at his friend's wedding. |
Re: Expensive tickets
I paid around $180 for a ticket to see Ray Charles in what would be his last tour of Oz (might have been his final show in Oz as well). I was seven rows back direct centre, well worth it.
I spent nearly $300 for three tickets to rugby union matches back in 2006. One to the Bledisloe here in Brisbane and two tickets to Wallabies vs Boks. Given the fact that the Bled tickets were twice as expensive as the Boks match I could really only afford to either get two to that or 1 ticket and two to the SA game. It was on the second least expensive ticket level and concessions as well. |
Re: Expensive tickets
We paid $385 (tickets and booking fees) for 2 tickets to the Twins/Yankees game tonight. Not the most I've paid, but for tickets that had a $30 face value, it was a lot.
I think the most I paid was $450 for a Packer-Vikings ticket at Lambeau field. Even then, the hotel and the cost of getting there was the majority of the cost for that trip. |
Re: Expensive tickets
I once spent $185 for tickets to a Steelers game. Not very expensive I know but I met a girl there and we dated for over a year - which got to be very expensive :D.

Re: Expensive tickets
$170 each for 2 tickets front row KISS. It was AWESOME!!!
And yes, nookie did ensue  |
Re: Expensive tickets
£120 for right-at-the-barrier Black Sabbath in an intimate venue (a town hall, actually). It was a warm-up gig for Donnington, and had outside-festival sound system for a venue no larger than the average school gym. It was awesome. I couldn't hear for days, but it was totally worth it.

Re: Expensive tickets
Somewhere around 110-120 euros and it was for a formula 1 grand prix. But other than that, I haven't spent more than 25 euros (for theaters or music concerts etc).
