RTD did state back in 2006 or so in a response to a question about is there a Doctor in Pete's world that the Time Lords are unique to Doctor Who's "Prime Universe" and as such neither they or the Doctor exist in other realities. And it seems Moffat and Chibnall have adhered to that in their runs as well.

Tie-ins have taken a slightly different perspective on the matter. IIRC, novels from way back in the day have stated the Dictator in the alternate universe in Inferno is that universe's Doctor. While the Matt Smith era novel Coming of the Terraphiles stated that during the Time War, the Time Lords drafted their counterparts from across the multiverse, and thus when the Doctor killed wiped out the Time Lords at the end of the war, he annihilated all the Time Lords across the multiverse. Though that probably isn't compatible with how Day of the Doctor would later depict things.

Of course, with RTD back in charge, he's likely going to stick with what he said in 2006 anyway.

You're fine. And no one went "anal." (You should try not including insults in your replies, makes you look bad.) It just was not clear at point you were referring to. Especially because he settled on her role fairly early in the process.

It's futile doing the incoherent ranting thing. There are better things to do. It is what it is.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Timeless child and pre-Hartnell Doctors either. At least I like her character and adore Jo Martin.

To add to that, Big Finish ventured into multiverse territory in their Gallifrey series. One story included a version of Gallifrey where the Great Vampires from State of Decay won the eternal war against the Time Lords.

David Warner also had a recurring role in the range as an alternate version of the Doctor. I really enjoyed his rendition of the character.

It's a shame that RTD decided to do that, but maybe somebody might reconsider things one day.

I'm wondering now if this 3rd Doctor element is not a reference to an actual story rather to an unseen adventure from that time.

Though he was against the idea in the past I know Sean Pertwee is more open to the idea of slipping into one of his dad's cloaks these days.

(And Ncuti has been clear that 3 is his favourite Original Series Doctor.)

There is a range of possibilities for how to actually see him, from full recasting with or without computer-aided makeup, to quick shots in shadows or from behind, how it was done in "The Name of the Doctor" or "The Witch's Familiar." Up until this coming season, the Doctors all had very specific looks that make it easy to show them without showing them.

Yeah, I suspect that's probably going to be it. At this point, even newbies in the audience are aware Doctor Who has an extensive past, so I could easily see this as a means of making a connection to that past but by making it an unseen adventure it'll be something the same to both newbies and the old farts like us.
I've also been under the impression over the years that the Pertwee era is RTD's favorite in Classic Who as well.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Classic series in my youth, but I did see a few McCoy stories and the McGann movie.

However, when I saw Spearhead from Space on dvd I was hooked on Pertwee.
Anything related to that era gets instant brownie points.

One of the trailer clips from Rogue shows the Doctor being scanned and his previous faces popping up so the idea will be fresh in people's minds too.

There were some publicity photos of the 8th Doc with the TARDIS posted recently. I assume Big Finish

His Doctor was the unbound take on the 3rd and you're not the only one who enjoyed his take.

Hartnell is the first Doctor, even if his Doctor isn't the first.

I'm reminded of the Colin Baker episode "Timelash", which was a sequel to an unseen Pertwee Doctor and Jo Grant adventure.

No one has mentioned the memory Tardis is some of the trailers. (It’s hidden in the Beeb one, but a Disney one showed the background. It’s obvious which is the real background, because the reflections on the Police Box doors match.)

Susan Twist's mystery character gets even more mysterious as she will also be in "Boom", which isn't even set on Earth, as per the official cast list.

I also note that Moffat has been given an "Executive Producer" credit on it.

Stuck behind a paywall unfortunately but in a interview in The Times Russell confirms (a) Season 3 scripts are being written even though it's not officially commissioned yet and (b) production offices for spin-offs (plural) have been opened, but it still sounds like early days for those.
