What very small plot (or plot detail) would make for an interesting Star Trek story?

Frell, the original Enterprise became self-aware in "The Impractical Joker."

The crew ended up getting tired of it and ran it through the anomaly that made originally the computer awaken, to undo the process and return the computer to normal.

Trek has a very conflicted relationship with AIs in general, so it's nothing personal...

 

There seems to be a difference of opinion on what the term "plot hole" means.

A cliffhanger is not a plot hole, for example.

Sisko's fate was left unresolved. Had DS9 continued, that might be a plot hole. Since the series ended, however, it's more of an unresolved plot thread or it could be considered a cliffhanger (had they planned an 8th season).

Perhaps the same can be said about the Dyson sphere. That's not really a hole in the plot, either. The plot hole in that episode is how did they beam through the Jenolan's shields at the end of the episode? Why did Scotty suggest Kirk pulled the Enterprise out of mothballs to save him when Scotty knew Kirk was blown out into space and presumed dead?

Of course, the OP said plot hole OR detail that we'd like to see returned to, The Sisko qualifies as a plot point.

We're Trek fans. We don't do "happy."

 

That could be considered a plot hole, but also one that we can probably brush under the carpet with some kind of an explanation. I like to go with the idea that Scotty is making a morbid joke, that he figured he was going to die, to he expected to see Kirk... it's on brand for Scotty.

Either way, I think we should move on from this specific topic.
