I had a thought, regarding the early years Federation Presidency. That its early history is very similar to the early years of America after the American Revolution.

How likely is it that, in the first couple of decades of the Federation, there was an Interstellar Congress., much like the early years of American had a Continental Congress and a Congress of the Confederation? And then Archer became the first Federation President, much like how Washington became the first American President?

The Interstellar Congress would still have their own Presidents (ex. Thomas Vanderbilt), much like there were Presidents of the Continental Congress and the Congress of the Confederation (ex. John Hancock). But Archer would be considered the first true President of the Federation, and established the norms of the Federation. Much like how Washington is considered the first true President of the United States and established norms for America.

It seems very plausible to me.

In the sense, we know they did, because there was a Coalition of Planets for a few years before the UFP which had some of the members (the early UFP had all the CoP members, plus extras), but more than that is unlikely IMO.

Star Trek (2009) came out 15 years ago today. That's too weird.

I don't know how to feel about this.

I will always associate that film with becoming a father and I think the themes resonated with me stronger because of it.

What exactly powers Starfleet communicator pins? Do they ever need to recharge them? Seems like I've never seen that come up.

I think I read somewhere that they use the same battery technology as the hand phasers, which would obviously give a fair bit of "juice".

It's also possible that they run at least in part on the wearer's body heat and/or recharge while they're sleeping.

In Regeneration (ENT), we see researchers surveying the remains of the Borg sphere ship. So, how come Picard & co apparently forgot about those remains?

I mean, in First Contact they shot the sphere, and they must have tracked the remains of the sphere ship falling down to earth (as their ship was only barely infected with Borg at that point, all sensors still would have been functional). And they must also have known that Borg technology is extremely regenerative, that drones might have survived (as they indeed did), and that even heavily damaged technology without drones would be extremely dangerous, might repair itself over time.

So how come they didn't (apparently) make any effort to clean the earth after the Borg infestation on the Ent-D was defeated? Were they simply careless?

Obviously:) But still, what would have been the in-universe reason ? :)

I mean, Regeneration could well have ended differently, causing First Contact to get a different ending as well.

Picard: Mr. Data, lay in a course for the 24th century. l suspect our future is there waiting for us.
    Data: Course laid in, sir.
    Picard: Make it so.
    <temporal wake effects recede>
Data: Captain, earth is still Borg
Picard: How is that possible!? We must have overlooked something! Quickly, back into the temporal vortex!
Data: Too late, captain, the wake has collapsed.
Picard: Then initiate a new one! We have to....
<Suddenly, tractor beams, thousands of times stronger than any tractor beam they'd ever witnessed from a Borg ship lash out simultaneously from dozens of different locations on Earth, capturing them and overpowering most of their systems at the same time. There's absolutely no way to escape or interrupt the beams this time.
Borg Collective voice: Welcome home, Locutus.
    Picard: Merde.

RIKER: Shields are down. Long-range sensors are off-line.

    RIKER: How much damage, Lieutenant?
    HAWK: I can't tell. Long-range sensors are still off-line.

PICARD: They knew their ship was doomed, our shields were down and somehow they transported over here without being detected.

OK, so they couldn't track them, and didn't know what happened to the 'doomed ship' . All the more reason to find out where it went after they'd defeated the Borg on the ship and repaired the sensors.

(But I agree it would've appeared a bit anti-climactic after defeating the Borg :) )
