There absolutely are examples of gratuitous use of CGI in pretty much every season. Things like the weird funhouse universe inside the turbolift shafts at the end of Season 3. Or a number of uselessly cluttered 3D displays which don't actually make anything clear. Some of this really does feel like busywork for the VFX team, not something that either the script or the pacing of the show really needs.
I got to disagree. I think it's got a good blend. Thing is with the new show though you would still only have two legacy characters with big parts and that would be Seven and EMH. I wouldn't count guest spots because those could even amount to nothing more than a cameo. I feel all the other characters still fit into the category of new characters. Raffi I guess maybe being the except since she was around from Picard season 1. Everyone else would be from Season 3 or brand new.
I'm with you on that. Kirk should have been a one shot, if even that. Kirk showing up should have been like the Luke Skywalker moment from "The Mandalorian". Not just like... he's there all the time for reason and almost at this point just a part of the cast. Uhura is fine but the show does skew a bit heavy to her. We still haven't had an episode focusing on Ortegas. I'd say the show is Spock heavy too but... I can excuse that, because he's a good Spock, although i'm very much over the "trying out human stuff" Spock. Enough. Scotty remains to be seen. I wouldn't say his literal one appearance was "too much". I am sure though that we will be "treated" to him many more times now. On the OP topic, I dislike Tilly less in DSC S5. I wasn't a fan of akward Tilly. I like the new, alittle bit more experienced and crushingly optimistic Tilly. I'm not sure she can carry a show as... presumably if not the "main" character, one of them.
I'd be absolutely down for a SNW/TOS sequel/continuation series with Paul Wesley in command. Keep who they need to keep on the Enterprise and have Number One promoted to Captain and take La'an and Erica with her to her own ship that we can periodically check-in on.
Yeah, Sulu's a physicist anyways on the ship's science lab staff when he first comes aboard. Not like he'd have much if anything to do if he DID get cast to appear.
Next old character that returns needs to be Doctor Boyce. Time to see him and Pike reunited and drinking a couple of martini's.
Jeffrey Combs is just waiting by the phone. I mean, he's playing me right now, but still. I do have my phone nearby.
