Whatever happened to crossfire or whatever its called where you could link two graphics cards with a small link that joined them?

I never tried it but a few days ago found the little link piece with the two connectors either end. Only mine seems a little damaged.

Both Crossfire and SLI are dead, nothing supports it anymore, it's 1 card only when you game nowadays.

So, not strictly a computer issue, but more of a tech issue. I have a newer Chromecast with GoogleTV UI with the apps living on the hardware itself, and I feel there's a design flaw which makes it annoying to use. I don't know why it was designed this way, but whenever I'm watching something via one of the apps, and any of the apps need to update, it kicks you back to the main menu. I can be in the middle of watching something, then bam, I'm at the main menu. It seems strange to me that something designed for the purpose of watching TV isn't assigning priority to the apps being used and pause any updating when something is in use. It sounds like something that should be basic functionality, no? Instead, when these app updates happen in the background, they're fighting for resources, hence the crashing back to the main menu. And it's so annoying. And I know the functionality is in there somewhere, as the system will pause any system updates if it notices app usage and instead puts up a message as a reminder that there's a major update. I wish the behavior would be more consistent throughout, as it's hard to predict when and if an update to the apps will occur.

I first started using computers to play very primitive video games, with one of my elders when I was maybe 6 years old. He was heavily into card games like Hearts or Solitaire, but I'd often play one of the first "Wheel of Fortune" ports. I also was a fan of the "Carmen Sandiego" history games. Many years later, I would take my first computer literacy class around 1995 or so, and that's when I was introduced to the Internet. My family couldn't afford our own computer at the time, so my Mom would drop me off at the local library, and I'd spend hours on Yahoo! Chat, just having random conversations (this was before all the ads and bogus porn bots infested it). In 2002, I went to community college for a year, and that's where I learned the basics of photo, video, and sound editing, plus HTML and 2D computer animation.

Haha was the internet more fun before advertising found it?

Definitely. For one thing, I didn't have to be worried about an otherwise-innocent conversation being suddenly interrupted, by some very graphic picture I certainly did not sign up for. To be completely honest, I already have enough various crap in my head - that garbage heap doesn't need any more fuel.

Yeah having said that the internet around 1994 / 95 for me was a hell of a lot more fun then it is now.

Well, there's been a lot of good advances, for sure. I remember when I was a teenager, one webpage with even a small or medium-sized image could take at least a full hour to load. Now of course, its barely done in seconds. And you have some truly great stuff these days, like video calling (as used weekly by a few fans here), social-media places like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube...to say nothing of the spectacular retailer Amazon. So many enhancements have been offered in just the last few years, and brilliant minds are coming up with more all the time. Not bad overall, for a system originally built as a communications network for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Facebook can go die in a fire.... Used it but the last 3 or 4 years and it's become a cesspit. I wouldn't be praising Amazon, it is hell for the people that work for them.

Well, I've mostly had positive experiences with both. Occasionally, some random stranger will try to contact me on Facebook - I just block them and move on. As for Amazon, I don't recall the last time I had a truly miserable experience, and I've been a customer of theirs since 2011.

It's never a bad experience for the customer but Amazon is hell for the people that work for them.

I just skimmed an article I found online, and apparently the University of Illinois did a survey last year, of 451 Amazon facilities across 42 states. They polled 1,484 current workers, and about 70% of those in the poll said the most common injury was sprains, strains or tears. Nearly half said they had moderate or severe pain in the leg, knee or foot in the last 3 months on the job. There's a lot more to the piece - you can read the whole thing at the link below.

I have a ram issue. Not sure if it is an issue just seems strange.

I added another 32gig ram to my system. In the bios I can see all the ram modules present but when I post it only shows 32gig in the post screen.

Motherboard is an Asus B450 Prime Plus running a Ryzen 5600g and AMD RX 6600.

You might need a "BIOS Update".

Also, read your MoBo about Memory Compatibility.

You might also have to "ReTrain Memory".

Even though this post is for DDR5, it technically applies to DDR4 and earlier.
Here's what they say about "Training Memory"

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
Had a nightmare this morning where my parents wifi dropped.

The terror came in three excruciating parts.

    1. The two of them trying to explain what was wrong, and they fail.
    2. Waiting for them to stop explaining what they think happened, which is not what happened, which was taking for fucking ever, and they fail.
    3. Actually fixing it while they ask me to explain what I am doing so that next time, they can do it themselves, and they just fail.

The entirely hilarious thing is that they do not know how to use their wifi.

They do not own a computer, and insist that their phone is too small to use as anything but a phone, they just need the internet for Netflix.

    Why are olds so mid?
