I used to watch OG NCIS fairly often. Or maybe I just borrowed the DVDs from the library and binged my way through much of the show. Regardless, at some point — probably around the time Abby left — I gave up on it. I recently started watching again, mostly to see Ducky's "farewell" episode, and it struck me how dumb the show has become. I love Gary Cole, but he's just "when you order Gibbs on Temu" with a dash of goofiness that Harmon never had. But then I've also been re-watching some of the older episodes, and no, the show's always been this dumb. :p

My point was that at least for them, it was repeatedly happening, for the nest five years. Only a mutual decision by the entire main cast stopped that from continuing. Warner Bros. was not kind to them at that time.

The original show was always kinda dumb, yeah, but I did enjoy it more in its first four or five years, when Bellisario was still involved. It had a bit more of an edge at that time. The longer it went on, the goofier it got.

The it reached the point where Bellisario went or Harmon walked.

obviously the studio valued the star ore than co-creator/EP.

And it's a blast. Been rewatching it with my wife. Some top notch fun episodes. But, then, I come by this naturally; I grew up with JAG.

I find it a tad amusing that a quintessentially American show like JAG...had a Canadian actor in the lead. :)

24 was even more "America, fuck yeah" than JAG ever dreamed of being, and Kiefer Sutherland is as Canadian as they come.

prior to last night, the last full episode I catched was the Gibbs gone/staying fishing in Alaska episode which I saw by chance on vacation. Prior to that, none since Tony left as a regular.

This is not going to be a popular opinion, but I much prefer the new cast, especially Parker and Knight.
Overall the show feels lighter and a lot less drama with ueber-symobilc-Gibbs gone - in person at least - and none of the annoying TIVA stuff. Always preferred Tony and Jeanne Benoit.

McGee's voice sounded different at times - still the same actor obviously.

Anyway I recognized some of the old NCIS names during the attack and good old Fornell still exists too.

the "why NCIS is important" flashback was cheesy, playing like a NCIS-verse promo, but I'll give them a pass, as the accompanying Vance/Son flashback and hospital scene was touching.

on the other hand Hawaii was intense, not as in production, but rather the grimm story.
the Tennant hallucination?! was weird AF.
Still hate Sam Hanna being more than a cameo/one time guest, taking away screen and story time and focus from Ernie, Jesse and Co.

Hope NCIS Hawaii, gets renewed, even if it's just for a final set of episodes.

CBS has started running promos for NCIS Origins. Nothing too exciting at the moment, just a shot of Gibbs fishing in Alaska with a narrator saying "you know how his story ends, now see how it began. NCIS Origins, this fall on CBS."

I liked that McGee cited Rule 39.

I was hesitant about Parker at first, but I really do like him. I especially like his "hobby of the year" life choice.

That...was kinda dumb. Why go after Kate's sister's former workplace and apparently not Gibbs (the one who killed her father....)?

While there are Vet Techs out there who can do programming, web developments, all that (especially for their employers in some cases)...

That level of programming, web development. She's young (27ish) so i'm a bit amazed she managed to be a Vet Tech (lot of work and studying) and yet capable of attacking a federal agency like that- the background on her should have revealed it. She was young. I don't buy the implication she was working alone.

Ari and few others would have been jealous. This had the potential for a new plotline arc...but no.

I mean NCIS-verse isn't known to be very accurate with tech/coding/hacking et all in the first place. They are well known to take "artistic/dramatic/visual liberties" (as most TV shows do)

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Best I can think up is living off the grid in Alaska makes Gibbs out of reach for her. It's shaky, but kind of works assuming she really is just a vet tech seeking revenge and doesn't have any professional terrorist connections.

What got me about this episode was when they figure out the connection all the way back to the pilot episode, Fornell refers to it as "the first case" he and Gibbs worked together on. Which, yes, is consistent with the fact that in the episode, Gibbs and Fornell act as though they don't know each other. Though that has itself become one of NCIS's odder continuity anomalies given how things are later retconned, most notably, that at the time of that episode Fornell would have either divorced or been in the middle of divorcing a woman Gibbs was married to, whom he supposedly met through Gibbs. Not to mention other episodes establish that Fornell had worked cases with Gibbs prior to Yankee White, most notably the one involving the serial killer hiding bodies in his apartment, the same apartment Tony moved into after the serial killer was arrested and McGee now lives in.

Yeah, TV shows do that, like Chandler not knowing Rachel in the series premire but a latter episode show them meeting her when he was in college with Ross.

Oh, I know. I'm just surprised this time they decided to be consistent with the pilot episode rather than the various retcons they've done over the years. I figured they'd have done a quick meta joke, with Fornell saying something like "Can you believe Gibbs actually pretended to be Ducky's assistant? Of course I knew it was a ruse, but I knew if anyone could get to the bottom of this it would be Gibbs..."

    Ah well.

Imagine if they had Fornell say that Kate had their permission....
