Interesting! Somehow I would have pegged you for a bigger TOS buff. But I guess that’s only because you mod that subforum. Also, don’t let John Billingsley see where you placed his show.
I really love the TOS movies (well, 2-6). The series is fine for what is was at the time. As for Billingsley, he’d be happy mid-tier. Beats “you killed the franchise!”
^ I guess one could also play this the other way around: See the tier list, guess the poster. Who could this be?
It's tough to rank them all by average episode quality. A 10-episode season will generally have a higher average than 26. I guess you could argue there's more active shows now to cancel that out, but it's not the same.
Twitter aka X isn't letting me login to my old account, and I'm not using my google name, so I'll have to do it manually. A: DS9, TNG, Picard B+: TOS, Voyager B: Enterprise B-: Discovery, Lower Decks C: TAS Not counting SNW yet, waiting till it has 3 seasons. I did make a tier list of movies, though https://tiermaker.com/list/tv-and-movies/star-trek-films-59974/138744
Here's mine. After a few rewatches and a lot of reconsideration, Picard really straddles the C/D line, but it managed to bump up to C. Oh that's an easy one . Though, I doubt they'd even put the other series on there, since they don't recognize their existence as being Star Trek enough.
Except for TOS being laughably low, I am mostly OK with. For me: Tier 1: TNG, TOS, DS9, SNW Tier 2: VOY, ENT, PIC, DISCO, LD, PRO Tier 3: TAS Except for TOS, they got the Tiers right. Though I would go in a different order. 1. TNG 2. TOS 3. DS9 4. SNW ---------- 5. LD 6. VOY 7. ENT 8. PIC 9. DISCO 10. PRO --------- 11. TAS 5-10 is really tough for me.
My ranking would be: S Tier: DS9 A Tier: Lower Decks TNG B Tier: TOS (though this is through the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia, not properly watched it in years) VOY C Tier: ENT Picard TAS Not Ranked: Discovery (only ever watched the pilot, make of that what you may) SNW (don't have Paramount+ so not seen it yet, will see about a free trial and binge it though, sounds like its a lot of fun) Prodigy (no idea what platform it's no these days so never been able to watch it either)
Screenrant is clickbait garbage. Theircbread-and-butter is breathless gossip about reality TV. TOS SNW TNG Who cares?
Having trouble with uploading photos right now, so text ranking: S: TOS, DS9, ENT A: TNG, TAS B: VOY C: SNW, DSC, LD, PIC D: PRO I firmly believe that Enterprise does a great job of bridging the gap between our modern day space program, and TOS, at least visually. It shows the disorganized practicality that would be necessary starting out, and shows the evolution into the more sleek looks to follow, as technology gets more refined. I also don't get the TAS hate. I think it continues the spirit of TOS as best it can in its format. Its also pleasantly seventies-y.
If you want to say TOS is a close second to TNG I could live with it but anyone who has it that low has no business writing about ST professionally. Anyway, going with the tier list S-tier- TOS A- TNG B- Ds9, Disco, SNW Voyager and Enterprise are in the D to F range. NS Picard and the animated ones are going for too different of an audience to really judge on the same scale.
S - TOS/TAS, DS9, LD A - TNG, ENT, SNW B - PRO C - DISCO, VOY, PIC D - nil I rank TAS with TOS since it just seems like an extension. Basically the 4th season.
Every single list is different, did we expect any less? I like this tier system because it can be hard quantifying newer shows from old. There's a bias for older shows for various reasons including nostalgia and familiarity, but the newer shows are technically superior, generally more consistent (fewer highs and lows), and have modern sensibilities. We also can't just suggest TOS is the best because it's the first, or say something new is always better. My list tries to strike a balance.
