Hi all, about to start my reading of the DTI books and noticed that Watching the Clock is about 28 dollars canadian...has this always been the case? I'm used to seeing trek books about 9 bucks before tax. Thanks for the help.
I don't think it's print on demand - the amazon listings are secondary vendors selling second hand and old stock - I think it must be out of print here (Canada) now.
I think IHPH might be right... Chapters is listing it as $33.17, and they don't have secondary vendors, do they? This is a "Paperback" listing, separate from the regular $9.99 "Mass Market Paperback" listing: Paperback - $33.17 Format:Paperback Dimensions:512 pages, 8 × 5 × 0.9 in Published:November 8, 2014 Publisher:Pocket Books/Star Trek Language:English The following ISBNs are associated with this title: ISBN - 10:1501107097 ISBN - 13:9781501107092 https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-c...ikwid=watching+the+clock&ikwsec=Home&ikwidx=0 Mass Market Paperback - $9.99 Format:Mass Market Paperback Dimensions:512 pages, 6.75 × 4.19 × 1.1 in Published:April 26, 2011 Publisher:Pocket Books/Star Trek Language:English The following ISBNs are associated with this title: ISBN - 10:1451606257 ISBN - 13:9781451606256 https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-c...81451606256-item.html?ref=item_page:variation It seems to be a separate release? But the worst part is, they bumped up the eBook price to be on par: $29.99! That's just ridiculous! https://store.kobobooks.com/en-ca/ebook/department-of-temporal-investigations-watching-the-clock
That is definitely out of order- the whole point of ebooks is that they don't need to do a print-run!
I've found a number of crazily-priced ebooks on Amazon: Worlds of DS9 #3 - $19.99 Titan: Taking Wing - $19.99 Titan: Orion's Hounds - $19.99 Titan: Sword of Damocles - $19.99 Titan: Over a Torrent Sea - $18.99 Titan: Fallen Gods - $18.99 TNG: Before Dishonor - $19.99 TNG: A Singular Destiny - $19.99 MU: Rise Like Lions - $19.99 TNG; A Time to Heal - $18.99 Vanguard: Harbinger - $19.99 And there's many many more. It seems to have gotten worse, actually; those Titan prices weren't like that too long ago. I can only hope that there's some poorly-written algorithm or something that's automatically jacking up these prices. It would be damn depressing if it were intentional.
I don't get that either, I had just assumed the high priced e-books were because the paperbacks were POD, but I find it hard to believe all of those are POD. Wow, I'm on my Google Play wishlist right now, and ENT: Rosetta just went from either US$3.99 or US$4.99 to US$18.99, that is an insane price jump.
I wonder if there's somewhere we can write to get an answer one way or another as to whether this is intentional or an oversight? Obviously, they can charge whatever they want for their product; it's fine, and I'll just put these on my Amazon wishlist and hope for a price reduction at some point, but if it is indeed an error, it would be nice to have it sorted out. I was looking to re-read Titan, Vanguard, and continue on with the DS9 relaunch (currently on Worlds of Deep Space Nine #1 now) while re-buying the books for my Kindle as I go along, but I can't bring myself to at these prices.
