Disagree with all of those suggestions. I like that it looks strong and aggressive. The curvy elegance is played out. Blah. It's not like straight lines an edges are not aesthetically pleasing in general.
Indeed! I would still be interest to see what Seth MacFarlane could do with it. - Star Trek: Discovery (Bryan Fuller, Nicholas Meyer, etc) - 2210s / Exploration, horror - Star Trek: Challenger (Seth MacFarlane, etc) - 2310s / Politics, exploration, slice of life - Star Trek: Endevour (????????) - 2410s / ???????? Plus 13 episode stand alone series for Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians :-)
I'd be all over going nuts with a lot of shows just because I like watching Trek so much. I understand and support Discovery being serialized, but if they do a lot of shows it would be cool to have at least one show be more episodic. There are so many great one-off stories in Trek. And it's nice to just be able to watch a random episode of any of the shows. Doesn't work as well with serialized show, even though I LOVE serialized TV. And there could be an anthology show that explores a lot of different things like a season from the Klingons (or Romulans or whatever) perspective, a season of episodes based on the "lower decks," etc.
One thing that occurs is that that's gonna be much easier to get out of a 3D printer than some of the previous designs, so perhaps CBS have recognized that aspect of the fandom? They could probably licence an official high-detail 3D template.
Yeah.... its growing on me. I think that how they choose the shots is going to have a big influence on how much I like it. Just going on the 3D model, it looks really good from some angles. From others, not so much.
I could see a marvel universe model in trek's future. If Discovery proves succesful (apparently it already has financially), then I could see multiple series with their own cast and crews being done. If there's ever an anthology series, it could be something like Star Trek Worlds or Star Trek Universe where they explore different worlds each season. Or they could do a Strange New Worlds and base each season off of stories from the Strange New Worlds fan fiction anthology book they have brought back. In the end it comes down to money, and if Star Trek is making CBS money, they will capitalize on it. And if they do it right, they can make money and deliver some innovative and quality tv for a long time to come.
Agreed. I think the ship looks great, different but it will be easy to get used to. I'm looking forward to seeing the final version.
hmm. This answers a question I didn't hear anyone ask..is this CBS Digital? http://www.cgmeetup.net/home/jobs/search/star+trek/
Marvel still has for each off their divisions a very heavy influence on all the properties. especially its film series. Which is why they have had a hard time getting any established writers or director. Because, most won't deal with that level of oversight, basically having someone like Berman overseeing literally every script and every aspect of the production. ABC's television side, and the Netflix side have similar people who guide and shape those parts of the Marvel Universe. There is a huge difference between Marvel and Trek. Marvel to date has aired 123 episodes of tv material, and 13 films in its Marvel universe, now of course you could expand the to other Marvel properties, but in doing so you actually see a rather significant amount of failure and some more successes. Compare that to the amount of material Trek has produced. And remember that Marvel's material actually has told very few stories about individual well known characters. Iron Man/ Tony Stark has been in 10 films and zero tv (call it 20 hours of material), Daredevil has been in 26 hours of tv, Nick Fury has been in 7 films and 2 episodes of tv lets call it 16 hour of material. Those are the biggest marvel characters in the most hours of material. Compare that to the main characters in Trek. The two primary characters with the least amount of screen time are Kirk and Archer with basically each being in 98 hours of material to date. That's the least. Marvel (thanks to its vast catalogue of characters) can produce a vast amount of material without having too constantly telling stories with the same characters. Trek has been telling stories over the years but with basically only 5 sets of characters to tell stories from. It will take Daredevil the most used major character 13 seasons (between his own show and the team up Defenders to equal any of the successful runs of Trek). I don't think any character from marvel will manage that.
Well you can see the angles that do work, but its not many, and boy a lot of angles look terrible. Personally i would rather them go into designs like the E.C.S. Fortunate, SS Conestoga, Enterprise XCV 330, or the pre Federation Delta shaped warp ship on enterprise (see the episode the Expanse, ass an example). All four of these are atypical starlet designs and all of them are great looking ships, for their design and function. To me the Discovery almost looks as bad as the DS9 kit bash off Voyager and the Maguis ship seen in the back ground of several shots (really hideous design for designs that you can clearly see, as opposed to the ships shown as debris in Best of Both Worlds II or the junk yard in Unification). I am not one that Trek must use a saucer, secondary hull, and two nacelles type of fan. Nor does a ship have to look graceful. But I still need to be able to believe that the design fits a style use in Trek.
Whereas my only problem with it is that it was cancelled before we saw it get its TOS style refit..... Season 5 could have been fantastic....
I like Enterprise. But if that was their plan, I'm glad it got cancelled when it did. I want any given series to live or die on its own merits, not how closely it can copy what came before.

Season 4 was fantastic. I would have been beyond happy seeing the show inch towards TOS *and* begin the Romulan Wars. Personally, I absolutely adore this refit. I would have included pics instead of links, but I do not know how yet.
That design looks awkward. Like just make it a new design if you are going to do a refit, not just slap a secondary hull pretty much on the existing ship.
