Or ... primitive and dangerous. Which in context might be a good thing? There's been a ton of discussion on that elsewhere. The ship is new.
This. That trailer looked like it came right out of a video game. This is obviously not how the VFX are going to look on the actual show, nor will the ship be that low-poly thing we saw.
It goes backwards, and forwards... it takes us to a place where we ache to go again... It let's us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved.
The code name was Green Harvest, which made me think of new recruits (i.e., green troops). Maybe the Discovery IS an old vessel and is used as a training ship? We also have to keep in mind that there are going to be multiple "crews" according to the first preview. I think the ship is alright. Not my absolutely favorite (at least based on the brief study footage we've seen) but not terrible at all. With some tweaking, it'll probably be pretty good. Mr Awe
The "Green Harvest" thing was a take on Star Wars's working title Blue Harvest. I wouldn't look too much into why they chose green.
Hmm. What if 'different crews' meant that the series regulars were instructors aboard a training ship, and each season we get a new crew of trainees and a new training mission that (inevitably...heh heh heh) turns into the 'real thing' aka TWOK? Then the 'older' style ship would make sense as well.
I wonder what alien races will be part of the crew. I'm going to assume a Vulcan will be onboard. I think it's time for an alien captain. I can't wait to see what the new crew looks like.
It could well be a take on that. Even if so, it might still have some meaning. But, agreed, I wouldn't give it too much meaning. Mr Awe
It has no meaning. It's a code name. It wouldn't be smart to wink at the audience your code name if you're trying to keep details hidden, would it?
After watching the trailer another couple of times I can admit that I like the outer Nacelle shell. The rest is poop but I like the overall nac shape.
Yeah, as far as I know the code names never, or at least almost never, have anything to do with the final production.
The nuTrek designs are modern and bad. The USS Discovery is retro and bad. I guess for some, the latter is a double-whammy, but bad is bad.
