FOX: Sleepy Hollow - Season Discussion

It is good to hear that. I still feel a lot of good will towards this show even though it is no longer must see TV for me. I feel a little sad about all of the wasted potential and missed opportunities surrounding the end of season 1, but that is all water under the bridge now.

I would love it if the show could course correct and make me feel as good as it did in season 1. We have a long weekend here, so maybe I'll watch this episode on my pvr on Monday.

 

^^ It's a pretty good episode, despite the lack of Abbie. The new FBI agent has developed well, and everybody gets some good scenes-- Corbin in particular has a really good moment. The flashback features Nathan Hale and is actually rather harrowing.

The one thing I missed was any mention of saving the Archives or Crane's new girlfriend. Perhaps there was no place for it under the circumstances, but I hope they haven't decided to drop those plot elements.

I agree, but I have a feeling they intend to bring her to the present. If it were me making the decisions, I would team her up with Grace Dixon in the past and have them be a Revolutionary-Era analog to Abbie and Crane.

Well, it's part of the format of the series to have those connections to the Colonial and Revolutionary Era. Aside from the relationship between Abbie and Crane, that's one of the things that makes me love the show.

That's very good news. Given the renewal of Scream Queens, we have a glimmer of hope that she show will go on.

 

The actress playing the new agent looks familiar, but of course she's the one person IMDB left out of the episode cast. What's her name?

I liked this episode; this season is a vast improvement over last--BUT, isn't this "Abbey in the underworld" just a re-hash of what they did in the season 2 premiere with Abbey trapped in Purgatory?

 

At the end of last week's episode, my first thought was that Abby was sent to the same planet as Simmons on Agents of SHIELD.

 

Oh, I love that aspect of the show too, it's just that it seemed to me like they could have come up with a more interesting flashback story this time.

 

I thought it was interesting that they flashed back to an actual historical event-- i.e., the execution of Nathan Hale-- and a rather harrowing one at that.

 

Re: the actress who played Agent Foster, I didn't care that she was trying to mimic and channel Nicole Beharie (Abbie Mills), such as the way she pursed her lips, her vocal inflections and pacing. All of it was so unoriginal and uninspired. She could've tried to be her own person rather than copy Abbie's style.

 

Maybe she was instructed to do that to play into the notion that she would be replacing Abbie.

Not that they'd leave here there, or that Crane would be lost to us on that astral plane.

I was worried for about 4 seconds that Abbie was going to escape that "world" WITH Betsy Ross and bring her back to our time.

Thank heavens for little favors.

 

Interesting. That's exactly what I predicted they would do.

 

Crane's pretty good to be able to recognize an individual saber, out of tens of thousands that were probably made. Rusted, decayed, bloodied, undecorated in any apparent way - Oh! That's Betsy's!

Also, was I the only one thinking that after a so many months trapped there, Abby's clothes must be awfully funky, and she'd be better off just leaving them off?

 

I wonder why Betsy's cutlass is there. Setting up a future episode probably.

Ah, I misunderstood you. I thought that Abbie met Betsy in the Catacombs. But Betsy was there at one time. She must have been there and escaped after Ichabod "died," otherwise he'd probably know. And she can't have died there, because we know how Betsy Ross died (and they're unlikely to rewrite history in that manner).

If only this were HBO.

I'm wondering about that well and the pond where Abbie emerged. Is that a one-way portal or would they be able to use it to get back to the Catacombs if need be.

I liked how they played with the expectation that Ichabod was going to express his love for Abbie. I'm fine with that if it happens, but I'm fine with it either way. I actually like the new girlfriend that Crane had and I'm a little worried that they've dropped her and the Save-The-Archives storyline.

 

The current villains, The Hidden One and Pandora, don't seem to pose much of a threat to Abbie and Crane. All they do is hatch a plot, from the safety of their lair, unleash a monster, like the Kindred from last season. ( Why would Benjamin Franklin create such a hideous and malevolent creature that could kill innocents as well as defeat other monsters?)

Did Crane's love interest say farewell for good?

 

What the hell did I just watch? That was the WORST episode of Sleepy Hollow I have ever seen.

Hubby and I were actually laughing, and not in a good way, at this one. The Bride-of-Kindredstein-story was ridiculously stupid--cringe-worthy, in fact. And to top it all off, after all that ridiculous monster-plot, they just get popped like meat-balloons at the end.

 

Uh oh.....

I suppose I must agree that that was the worst episode of Sleepy Hollow. It could have been a funny, tongue-in-cheek homage to the old monster movies, but if that was the intent, it was not directed appropriately. In essence, I liked the idea of the ending, with the creatures not being defeated through violence or magic, but the threat being eliminated by love, but it just didn't work. And any bit of goodness that could have been squeezed out of the episode was ruined when the two Franklinsteins were popped like meat balloons (which also raises the question of why he doesn't do that to everybody). This certainly won't help our chances of renewal.
