I'm sure Zavin's team is monitoring everything he's doing. Not that they have to. I mean, his website and podcasts are evidence enough.

Anybody know any Star Trek slash groups we can send that to?

I'm looking at you, the-artist-formerly-known-as-J. You pervy bastard. ;)

wow, they've really opened a hornet's nest, haven't they? how are they going to assign relative value and give prizes in the face of every possible lifestyle signing on to the crew?

What a sweet job, though. I'd do it for free!

and another thought, if they didn't require any sort of release before soliciting copyrightable character definitions, it may open them up to having to license the characters and being sued if they do anything similar to anything that is sent in. "we are a professional studio".

    1. I would be surprised if they are going to be making a movie in any way, and I think this is a way to keep fans engaged.
    2. The copyrighted material would really only come into play if they used any of the material in the movie that the fan had created. Though, it would have to be specific and not in the realm of "idea." I'm assuming the script is pretty locked at this point, so, I doubt any of this stuff would be put in the "movie."
    3. THOUGH, say the movie happens, in some alternate mirror universe where left is right, I still don't think the material would be used in the movie, BUT, what if they used it on a website? Extra material, that sort of thing. Then, yeah. They would want a release for that.

They should just get a release anyway. But, then, they would have to admit copyright is a thing.

I was gonna print out copyright infringement bingo cards, but crap, at this rate everyone would be a winner...

I bet it isn't. Sets aren't done, casting is up in the air. The only thing I've seen any progress on is carpet and office furniture.

I could be wrong (and I am, often).

But here's something to lighten the mood:

Finishing a script doesn't wait on casting or sets. Casting can happen at the very last moment even in actual professional shoots. So, none of that is actually unusual.

Star Trek needs more jazz hands.

Except that this was all supposed to be ready to go in January, then delayed because of the lawsuit, but it hasn't even been cast yet, and the sets aren't done, and on and on ...

I'd be surprised if there was a script anywhere near ready to shoot.

Well, Robert Meyer Burnett said he has been working on them tirelessly! I posted our whole conversation so all can see ... mostly to refute his claim that he thinks I'm a "two-bit blogger." Funny ... he didn't think that way when he was begging me to interview him.
