So far he seems to be nailing what makes Star Wars a great and beloved part of global pop culture. The actors, sets, physical props, puppets, makeup....he's clearly taking what Lucas, Kershner and Marquand did long before him and building on it all, while likely doing his best to avoid the mistakes made by George during the Prequels.

Well SW also takes place in much more of a fantasy world, so there's a lot more room to bend the rules than in Trek. And the technology is a lot simpler as well, so there's no possibility of doing crazy and ridiculous things with the transporters, for instance.

Yeah, none of the prequel-era Wookiees looked right to me.

Actually those engines look a lot like the McQuarrie concept art for the X-Wing.

The images from the past 24 hours show quite a few nods to Ralph McQuarrie's conceptual art for the Original Trilogy. I'm really liking them.

Those Falcon pics are really cool. Its also nice to see an X-Wing being built. Its going to be awesome to see them on screen.

The pig monster/animal thing looks pretty impressive, I wonder if it will get any significant ascreen time? It seems like a waste to put so much effort into it and then make it just walk around in the background.

I'm loving what we are seeing here. I love that they do appear to be using at least a some practical effect a. I don't mind CGI, but it's still cool to see to see them going back some old school stuff.

Has anyone entered into the charity contest yet? I donated $20 (ie, entered twice) this morning. Thus guaranteeing my spot in the movie!!!

I'm wondering if this is a sort of hanger set, one can see some of what looks like a wall that sort of resembles the Rebel ship hanger seen in ROTJ in between the ships and the pig.

Doesn't explain the other pig monster though. Maybe it's ground-based?

That's doubly impressive if so, the rebel hanger and Falcon background seen in ROTJ was mostly realized through a painting that wasn't that well composited with Han and Lando IMO.

Also regarding the Falcon, it did appear in ROTS, and ships of it's type were seen on Naboo in AOTC. But of course that was all CG and blink and you'll miss'em camoes.

No, it doesn't look like a hanger. It does look like a hangar, though. :D

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Have a closer look at pictures 4 & 7. Unless I'm mistaken it looks like they're building an actual internal set in there too? Perhaps they're planning to do a tracking shot from inside to out (or visa versa) without cutting? If so, that'd be *really* cool.

Still, bit of a trick considering the outside was always smaller than the internal set. Possibly it'll only a partial internal set with a little green-screen set extension?

And yes, that X-Wing is clearly inspired by the McQuarrie painting. If it's meant to be a "new model" fighter then it might cause a little continuity problem with the new rebels series since they're also on an RMcQ kick and I'd bet good money they'd also planned to use that same basic design...of course if it's meant the be an older model, then there's no problem after all. ;)

I have a feeling it's similar to Star Trek 2009's corridor shots

Which is a shame, because they actually built the full size Falcon for the sandstorm scene that ended up being cut. But they couldn't afford to keep it around for the hangar scene for whatever reason.

In fact I was horrified to read in the recent Making of Jedi book that they actually made a giant bonfire out of it afterwards. :( Here's hoping they find a way to preserve this new one (and perhaps install it at a Disney park afterwards), since it's the last one that'll probably ever be built.
