I thought it was more of their advanced technology.

To the Asgardians, tech and magic is the same. So we don't know if it's some innate power of Frigga she taught Loki or how to use some advanced tech Asgardians have but not all can use.

The film is knocking on the door of $200m US domestic now, will likely hit it a week from today with Monday daily figures. However, it's gone past $600m WW already!!

Wow, it hasn't reached $200 million domestic yet? I thought it had already. I guess the rest of the world loves Thor more than the US does.

That's pretty much where I stand. TRANSFORMERS was after my time as well, so it's not a cherished part of my childhood. Never seen the cartoons, the movies. Never played with the toys. Not because of any critical aversion, but simply because it's Greek to me. I don't have any nostalgic attachment to a kid's show that aired long after I grew up.

Meanwhile, I finally saw THOR 2 and really enjoyed it. THOR is one of my favorite Marvel movies (and one of the first Marvel comics I read regularly as a kid) so I ate this up and was glad I made the effort to actually see it on the big screen. The Viking funeral scene alone was worth the price of admission.

My one niggling complaint: Jane Foster still seems to be the weak link in these films. Of the four female characters in the movie, Jane is the blandest and least interesting. (I love Darcy, btw. She steals every scene she's in.) There's a reason they wrote the character out of the comics decades ago . . ..

As for recasting Odin . . . he's an old guy in a white beard. Get another distinguished actor with plenty of gravitas and you're golden. If you can recast Dumbledore, you can recast Odin.

Bring on THOR 3! For Asgard!

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
What do you think that rest of the world is?

A few dozen thatched villages worshipping fallen from the sky aeroplane parts like they were gods?

THOR DARK WORLD in it's 7th week of US domestic release has passed the $200m milestone! It did so with a significant drop in revenue from 3D share which means it grew it's overall base with individual receipts rising, not purely ticket prices rising. It placed 10th this weekend so likely it's last turn in the Top 10 but over Christmas and NYD it should edge close to $204-205m before days below $100K kick in due to severe theater loss.

It's WW figure is $627m and is open in most, if not all, international territories now. I believe it opened in Japan last week which was the last major one.

And that confirms trilogies for everyone (and likely in phase 3).

Yeah, I thought there might be room for a Hulk movie in the unknown slots but all but the unannounced Dr Stange movie have been taken if I'm not mistaken.

Although, to be fair, Hawkeye and Black Widow haven't had their own movies at all.

It's great, if not expected news, that Thor 3 is moving forward on the script phase.
This installment was just too much a success to not do another.

I'm pinning hopes on a second Hulk solo film coming off AoU.

I think there is enough material now to work around and do a Black Widow solo film.
The three acts practically write themselves with what we know so far.
Act 1 some general family background, Loki referenced her father and his description wasn't one of flattery.
Act 2 Follow a few moments of getting her Ledger red doing things on the wrong side of the law, insert Hawkeye whose been sent to bring her down, but brings her in.
Act 3 Her and Hawkeye's mission as referenced in Avengers.
Close with present day something. The gimmick would be how do we get the film to start so that we can justify showing so much of it flashback style.

Plus whatever is revealed about her in Cap:TWS and AoU, a >$100m film should be feasible I'd think.
Hawkeye needs more time to validate a solo for him I think at this point. He's still best served as a support role, whereas BW is ready for the spotlight.

If we do get a Black Widow movie I'd rather not have an origin story but one set in the world of post-Avengers.

If they were to do a Black Widow film, I would be happiest if it was mostly set post-Avengers, or Posu AoU, but tied into her origin story somehow. That way we could both move her story forward, but at the same time still get an origin story, or at least more backstory for her.

I don't think there's room in phase 3 given the latest info:

    2015 Ant-Man
    May 6, 2016
    July 8, 2016
    May 5, 2017

It appears those movies will be Dr Strange, Thor 3, and Captain America 3. After that is probably Avengers 3. At least that's the pattern.

I think Hulk works best in an ensemble; he's not interesting enough to hold his own movie. And his villains are pretty bad. It would be different if they did "The Professor" Hulk or "Mister Fix It", but they can't afford to have the entire movie starring a CGI monster.

Hulk managed an entire tv show, how come he can't make as good movie?

ETA: I kind of want to create a Hulk movie version of the Fugitive. Essentially, there's some kind of destruction that SHIELD blames in Banner and sends Clay Quartermain to stop him. Meanwhile, Banner investigates and tries to prove his innocence while staying calm. Finally, they figure it out and Hulk defeats the bad guy.

Not sure how to make the movie about the environment like Rufallo wants, though.

Don't forget the meek biochemist SHIELD agent she's forced to bring along, who then becomes her love interest, played by Naya Rivera. ;)

But yeah, we need a Romanov origin movie like we needed one for Jim Howlett.

They could do flashbacks if they want an origin story. More interesting from a movie perspective is when she met Hawkeye.
