Awesome review. I'm very excited to see the return to form on the bonus material. I've asked for more archival stuff, footage from shows like ET, and it looks like I'm going to get it. That's great to hear.

Well that sucks. But then the only way to take advantage of that was to go to Target at 8AM.

I like the new Darmok phaser shot. A pity it just fires from the strip instead of "charging", but the timing of the shot would not have allowed it.

@FrontierTrek, thanks a lot for the review!
The pictures look fantastic and from what is available it seems like most of TNG-R S05 will be a blast.

I'm disappointed in few areas, especially the replacement of the Darmok phaser shot with much more boring sequence. For me it seems it takes a lot out of that scene and is one of the occasions where SD is actually better. I can't understand why they didn't stay true to their original mission to preserve original shots when possible (the "fix" reasoning does not hold up with me, its a shortcut reusing older shot allright). Devidia also does not live up, seems like guys at CSB-D did take some shortcuts where possible.

Majority of stuff however looks superb, some of the VFX truly 2010+ feature film quality.

    One small question:
what episode is this shot from? Looks magnificent.

Cost of Living has one of the more exciting openings of any episode. Aside from blowing up in Cause and Effect, it's the only episode where it begins in the middle of an action sequence.

But then the rest of the episode happens. Oh well, Worf popping that face-bubble thing made it worthwhile.

I was fooled at first, thinking that shot was CGI.

I've seen this model up close at the Star Trek exhibition. It looks HORRIBLE, like a poorly made replica. CBS-D are full of miracle workers making it look so good.

I couldn't remember what episode that shot was from either, there's a few unmemorable episodes in Season 5 (still buying the blu ray though).

This is a massive shame from my point of view. Particularly as they've been good at adding in the charge in phaser shots that previously didn't have it (like Yesterday's Enterprise)

    Facepalm :(

I really don't get the fuss over that. It's such a very brief moment, I can't imagine why anyone would care for such a change. For me, it makes sense and the original shot isn't exactly crucial to the whole piece, especially since everyone has acknowledged that it was an error for over 20 years.

Has anyone heard any word on if there will be a complete series box set for TNG in blu ray? I figured there would be, and I'm holding off to get the box set, even though I'm dying to watch the series on blu ray. I figure the box set might have some extras, if nothing else there should be the pretty box.
This is my plan for TNG, DS9, Voyager and ENT. I only just ordered the box set for TOS in blu ray, and the movies. I am a little frustrated by the lack of Director's cuts, and am keeping the DVDs for TMP and WOK for those versions.

I'm sure a box set will be made, though I can't be sure it'll include new exclusive extras. Maybe it will, or won't.

    Ain't that the truth.

I'm glad there isn't a two-fer deal as well. There's really little reason to buy Unification otherwise, as both parts are on the season set. If Target had offered the same deal I probably would've got it anyway; now I have no reason.

And for Season 4, not only was I there when the store opened, I called the day before to arrange to get copies before they got mangled in their security devices. Now I won't have to worry about it - I'll just go somewhere else that has undamaged product, and more than one or two copies.

Really looking forward to this set, but I'm still befuddled over the marketing strategy they are going for now. There's no hype for it, no more theater screenings which brought TNG fans together and filled theater houses, and maybe no deals. Hopefully the Amazon price goes down again they it typically does on Sundays. I just wish they were as excited for Season 5 as they were for Seasons 1-2. It just feels like that honeymoon period is gone, which I guess was inevitable.

It's too bad about the movie events. All thew ones I went to were well attended.
