Great David Mack Interview.I'm really looking forward to reading his upcoming novel in the fall series and Section 31 Disavowed.That's a novel I will be definitely looking forward to getting nest year.
Very interesting read, especially the mention of salary numbers. I had been wondering about those in absolute terms as well as the TV comparison for a while. I work in the software industry, which I speculate is actually not that dissimilar from novel writing in terms of the work experience (you sit a lot, a lot of the work process is ultimately solitary, work doesn't really stop when you get up but rather a lot of the difficult problems tend to get solved away from the desk in your head, you need to juggle different levels of complexity both localized and global to the project in front of you, high levels of concentration are required for hours on end to be productive, etc.) and we definitely tend to get paid much better. Worth keeping in mind when considering book pricing.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Mack writing the DS9 characters again (Bashir and Shar anyway, I don't know who else is in A Ceremony of Losses) as since he wrote/pitched for DS9 and wrote Warpath , he seems to know those characters really well.
Great Interview! Man I remember buying those computer games mentioned. The games came out before we had the internet available in rural Kentucky so it was a big deal to have something Trek I could interact with. On the novel side, I'm thrilled to see the Andorian storyline continue. Finishing up the Ds9 relaunch I found the Andorians fascinating with Shar being an early favorite. Of course I have about 50 Trek books on my list to read *before* I even get to The Fall series so.....
I will be over the moon if david mack is the guy to end the andorian reproductive crisis story thread once and for all so I never have to read about it again. Been going on for like nine years now, and has almost always been a terrible read. Hopefully the data book brings him back to tng. Do wonder who's writing it though. The only names that spring to mind when I think of data books are Jean Lorrah and Jeffrey Lang, but neither have written a trek book in a long time. I suspect it'll be someone who's written a trek book fairly recently.
Great interview...and I second Sho's hope that Jeffrey Lang is the man to write that new Data book. I absolutely loved his Immortal Coil and would like to see him tackle this new stage in Data's existence
David Mack's Destiny novels are mentioned in anew article the in new official Startrek magazine in a new Interview it goes into a lot detail about certain storylines and characters like Erika Hernandez and her crew and about the creation of the Calier for this series .It's a Great interview they also talk about The new fall TNS/DS9 books too.And I'm excited about a new Data novel I hooe Jeffery Lang is the author Immortal coil is a great book.
IIRC Mr. Mack mentioned that he had been in touch with Mr. Lang with regard to the Cold Equations, and I believe Mr. Lang stopped by the board this year (in the newly-opened Immortal Coil review thread?), which is why I speculate he may be back in the running. Which would be awesome.
Una McCormack is writing a TNG book in the next year called Home Again. Maybe it's this book that will reunite us with Data.
Well in the Trekcore interview Una said it is a novel, so I assume it will be a regular release, although it only is listed as a Kindle edition yet.
