I await the inevitable nostalgic "glorification" of Abrams Trek and the trashing of the current incarnation.
It will happen. Today's kids will consider NuTrek the "real" Trek--and stubbornly reject the next reboot! It's the circle of life.
Hey, I liked FIRST CONTACT. And GENERATIONS has its moments, although I think the parts are better than the whole. Like I said, it's not necessary to denigrate the previous versions to accept a new and different version.
Every movie since Generations has been so unimaginative. Always a "villain", always an actionpacked ending where that villain dies horribly. Come up with something new guys... "The Voyage Home" was a huge success and didn't need all that. Do I want a new Star Trek movie? Yes. Do I want another Star Trek movie? No. If it's the latter, I will scream: "Kahhhn!!!!"
I love to denigrate every incarnation of Trek, movie and TV (can't comment on the books, as don't read them). And wholeheartedly love and adore every new and different version .
You really think today's audiences expect the same movie over and over again? Well, hardly surprising after the billionth Spiderman, Superman and Batman remake. But eventually they will grow tired of it. A movie doesn't have to be a ST:TMP retro-snore-fest to be innovative. Look at Source Code, Moon and Oblivion. Good Sci-Fi is still possible without cookiecutter villains and Wrath of Kahn remakes.
I certainly want a third movie. I love ST09, and STiD even more. I'd like to see what they do next in the Abrams universe. It's fun, colorful, has great characters, some social commentary, and everything that makes Star Trek fun and alive again.
I have the same thought. I think the point is that the TNG movies were made for fans and other people thought "Nerd" when they saw them. Not good for the franchise. Unfortunately there's an argument to be made for that.
I never liked the thought process that implies because one doesn't share the common consensus opinion, that somehow invalidates or questions their right to post in any given place.
Well I think ST Voyager and ST Enterprise are cringingly awful, and ST DS9 is vastly overated and appeals to the intellect of an angry 14 year old, but I don't post negative comments in the thread subjects related to those series spin offs. Some members have spent an unhealthy amount of time and post count on forums/thread topics that are about the very movies that they dislike, so why waste time posting on them when they can sit in a DS9/VOY forum and talk positively about how cool it was back in 1997 and how sexy they think Janeway is?
