How can you mention the Jets without a reference to the greatest play of all time?

The rarity that this happens is up for debate, but the poster I was responding to specifically spoke in favor of aiming towards a player's head if he is crowding the plate, so I was only responding to that.

I'm rooting against both the Yankees and the Mets :D

I too root for both the Yankees and Mets, as well as the Jets and Giants. I believe that you should support your local teams. I understand that not everyone thinks that way, just how I am. A lot of this stems from as a child, being a Mets fan but going to a lot of Yankees games at Yankee stadium. Same with the Giants, impossible to get Giants tickets so we went to Jets games. In fact I didn't go to a Giants game until my senior year of high school. I went to all the home games that year and the Giants won the Super Bowl. That was in 1986, I was working part time at a car dealership in the Meadowlands and my boss got free tickets, he would give them to me.

I went to college in the Bronx when the Yankees were winning titles left and right. The old stadium was a short subway ride away, and I went to a ton of games. I grew up a Mets fan, but have no problem with the Yanks other than subway series time.

My old man never cared for sports all that much, but my mom was born in Brooklyn and scorned by the Dodgers as a kid. Been a Mets fan since Day 1. So that rubbed off on me as a kid.

As for the Jets and Giants...I hope a blimp full of diarrhea and broken glass crashes into Met Life Stadium. Go Pats!

I gotcha. Anybody that advocates throwing at the head deliberately isn't even worth of acknowledging.

Losing Juan Francisco in Atlanta is no biggie. Chris Johnson is hitting well above what anybody thought and he probably has earned the starting job at third base. Ramiro Pena is the only utility player we need right now and he has been fantastic as well.

The lineup I saw last night is the lineup that needs to be on the field a majority of the time. I'm sorry for B.J. but its impossible to justify starting him over Jordan Schafer right now. Schafer is on fire and is a legitimate leadoff hitter. Also, having Pena play second last night solidified the middle infield defense. Taking Uggla and B.J. out of the lineup saves at least 4 K's a game and I'm not being sarcastic there. Fredi will keep running B.J. and Uggla out there because they are expensive as shit.

Cubs have won 5 in a row, all in fairly convincing manner.

Would anybody be interested in a thread about the college baseball 64 team tournament? I love this time of year but even baseball fans I know don't pay it much attention. I made one for the World Baseball Classic back in March but it didn't get much traffic. I'm just asking here to see if fellow baseball fans have an interest that trickles down to the collegiate level.

Man the Giants are really sucking, and the pitchers are not as good as they once were. I know you have peaks and valleys during the season, but their recent play has me concerned. Cain and Bumgarner got busted up today, and yes it was against the hottest team in Baseball, it's just been an ongoing thing for the last few weeks. Also, the hitting isn't producing anything, and if the hitting is silent and the pitching sucks, you're not going to win any games. I hope they can turn it around soon, especially on the road which is where they will be for most of june.

BJ Upton gets a walk off hit, woo-ooot!

I'm hoping he really brings up that abysmal average.

Maybe the threat of demoting him to Gwinnet had an impact. He can't catch up to high 80's or low 90's fastballs all season but a 101 mph fastball was no problem for him tonight. Try to figure that out. Baseball is a strange game sometimes.

This MLB thread is lucky if it gets a dozen posts a week, I'm not sure there'd be much of a reason for a college tourney thread.

Yeah, thats kind of what I expected. I'll leave it alone unless someone wants to discuss it once they get to Omaha.

So I was playing around on B-R today because I was procrastinating at work, and I discovered something amazing: The San Francisco Giants have the worst team ERA and starting pitcher ERA in the NL West. There are two SP on the staff with an ERA below 5, and one of them is Barry Zito. Pitchers are fickle things.

Matt Cain is going to have PTSD-induced horrors every time he sees a Cardinal after he retires.

Edit: Also, Dom Brown managed to put together a .991 OPS for the month of May without drawing a single walk. [IMG]

And today (6/4) is the 39th anniversary of one of my favorite baseball events: 10ยข Beer Night in Cleveland. Oh how time flies.

R.A. Dickey pitched his best game as a bluejay today. Was watching the Yankees game and also caught this one. This looked like the RA I watched last year. His season so far reminds me of his first year with the Mets. He even had a nice double to score the first run.

Teheran flirted with a no hitter going 7 1/3 innings before Brandon Inge singled to left. Still Teheran had a great May and is showing signs of becoming that top prospect he was projected to be. Scary thing is he is still a baby too. At one point the stat starting the fourth inning showed that he was sitting at 4 balls and 36 strikes thrown.
