Mocking it not long ago, I am very new to Facebook. On my kids urging, I signed up and have discovered that I now know more about what they are doing than I ever did before.

I opened a FB account just to be able to see my daughter's pictures and friends. I have nothing on mine, and don't post. I'm very private and keep my account private. I am too private a person to enjoy social media. I don't even put out "welcome" matts by my front door because I don't want people to get the wrong idea. ;)

Up until a year ago, not very. It was primarily to keep in touch with people I didn't regularly see anymore.

Now: how I do business and make connections is through social networking and depends on it. One connection led to another led to another... All the progress I've made in the past year and the opportunities that have arisen because of it have been through social networking.

My godkids wouldn't dream of communicating with me any other way. Actually, one of them doesn't even there. But if I occasionally post something directly to his timeline, he at least condescends to "like" it. Sometimes. ;)

 And here I'd thought I was the only one!

For a moment I thought I accidentally posted in the wrong thread, but on reflection, this works fine.:)

Linkedin is very useful for professional networking for me and twitter/google+ is a good way for me to track what people in my field are upto but facebook I don't touch.

This board is as close to "social networking" as I get.

In fact, my ten year old son has taken to asking me "Dad, are you on your Man Facebook again?" I'm not sure where he got that phrase, but I think it's because he sees his mom and sister on Facebook all the time, and assumes TrekBBS is my version of it.

I don't have a Facebook page or twitter account. I'm not on LinkedIn or any of that.

I'm also a sucker for FB and Twitter, however I don't really post much in either one..I mainly use FB to catch up on long lost friends, who sometimes don't really seem to care if I'm on there one way or another. One of my best friends that moved to FL in 2003 is now married with a son and so she also hangs out with people who have husbands and kids of their own as well and I don't fall into that category sadly. I also catch up on old college friends as well and I like when there is a new post about their status. :)

As for Twitter, I only use it to find out about my favorite TV shows/actors and what not. I don't post much there either..I just look sometimes to see if there's anything going on with them and love looking at some funny pics of them!

I'm on facebook and twitter and Linkedin, but I don't embrace it as much as others. I use facebook to chat with a friend, play games, and keep up with various people. Twitter is really following news and if there is something wacky going on in a sporting event, than jumping into a conversation is cool. I usually get pretty ignored though. As for LinkedIn, I really need to embrace it a lot more considering it is a helpful tool to find a job.

I have been considering closing my facebook account though. For one, I just don't like the changes, and the facebook I signed up for is nowhere near the facebook I like today. Perhaps it was inevitable, but it really has gotten too corporate and bland. It's lost personality. Also, if I see another page I subscribe to say Like or Share this comment or some stupid thing, I might unsubscribe.

Zero importance, all my family are in the local area so if i am not seeing them personally i'm texting them, never had any need to use said social sites.

I use Facebook, but I post here more than I do there. And my average here is less than four posts a day...

I do like FB for two reasons, though - I don't live near my family, so it's good for keeping in touch and seeing what's going on with them and old friends. Also, some old message board friends migrated to FB, so I can catch up with them there.

Mostly casual Facebook usage. I don't really post on people's walls much. Just login occasionally if I receive personal message notifications via email.

This site and LiveJournal excepted, (online) social networking - on any of the trendy sites, anyway - is unimportant to me.

I started a Stalkbook account a while back to see what the fuss was about. Whatever it is that so fascinates people completely passed me by. What put me off completely was Stalkbook's abysmal attitude to people's privacy. I had all my information set to private; when I logged into the place several months later I found that everything I'd set to private had been re-set to public. Since I didn't do it, Stalkbook must have. That says it all about their views on people's online privacy and that was it so far as my use of the place goes. I don't intend to ever log in there again.

Twitface doesn't do anything for me, either, and I never bothered with any of the other options. As ever, to each their own.

LinkedIn is useful for work, and tbh that's become primary network. FB good for international friends. But email still default.

I use facebook a lot. I've been there for something like seven years now (when it first came to UK universities), and I work in a career where people frequently move around the country. Completely social use, but it's important.

This is very true for me as well. My likes and interests were originally either set to private or to be seen only by a certain group of people I labeled "Inner Circle," and when the latest update took place, they were plastered all over my wall. I thought WTF? My interest in gay porn is none of anybody's business! :shifty:

I use Facebook a lot. I've moved about quite a bit over the years, and FB is a quick and easy way for me to keep in touch with friends. I have very few family members who use FB, and that's fine by me. Apart from friends I've also added people I've met online. Every few months I do some culling of the friends list, so the people on my FB list most often are people I actually want to have on the list. For the rest I use Twitter occasionally, as some friends use Twitter rather than FB, and I also have a Livejournal account, which is always friendslocked.

I quit Facebook, I absolutely HATE it. One the other hand, everyone I know uses it for events so I think I need to make a new barebones account.

Twitter I love. I joined it for fun, and ended up getting my first major publishing credit due to the connections I made there. Twitter has become essential for me, but it's about the only one I use.
