Just finished Inside the Writer's Room - it's great, every bit as good as the cast reunion on S2 if you like the behind the scenes of how TNG got made. Looking forward to the Michael Piller tribute as my next documentary.

What would be the motivation behind this?

^ I just thought it would be a neat touch, that's all. And don't tell me you haven't thought about what Worf would have been like in that timeline. ;)

I assume Worf would have been killed at Khitomer as a child. A Federation starship likely would not have been in the area to aid and find Worf.

^ Then again, the whole situation at Khitomer might have gone differently. Perhaps Ja'Rod (the traitor) was killed, and thus never got the chance to betray the colony to the Romulans...

Tried the Newport, Kentucky Target just a few minutes ago. They had no copies of Season 3, one copy of The Best of Both Worlds and no Hot Wheels Enterprise. So I left there empty handed.

Watching "The Ensigns of Command" right now... Make sure to pause and read the text of the Treaty of Armens when it's on screen. Someone had a little fun writing that... ;)

Anyway, as for the episode itself, been years since I watched it last (probably not since I did my epic chronological viewing of all of Trek.) The story is serviceable enough, and I like all the scenes on board the Enterprise. The bit with Picard checking on the progress in the transporter room made me laugh, the ready room scene with Troi sounded a little prescient of "Darmok", and the conclusion of Picard's negotiations with the Sheliak is a total hoot (and great shot of the bridge plaque!) On the other hand, it's the colony scenes with Data that sort of pull down the episode because they're saddled with some really lousy guest actors. The design of the Sheliak is pretty cheesy as well.

Yeah, once again I just don't understand what their reluctance is to swap out the dinky 2-footer for a better model. I don't really think it's going against the filmmaker's "original vision" to have an Enterprise that actually holds up well in HD.

To me it's no different than swapping out the crappy 80s planets with fancy new ones.

Wow. That's awful. I agree it should have been replaced.

I checked Target's website before the stores opened, most stores in the area (Buffalo) said "limited stock" but there were a few that merely said "in stock". I'm guessing that was true for most shoppers. And yes, the one I went to had limited stock, in that I bought their single copies!

Generally, my Best Buys are jerks about price matching, and I didn't want to wait until they opened, so I went to Target. But I'm kinda bummed about not getting the CienemaNow bonus content. I watched the bonus content for Enterprise, and it was okay, but not something I'd rewatch! Wish it was a bonus disc instead... With the old DVD sets, I'd watch the exclusive bonus disc, and put it up on eBay eventually when I saw what people were shelling out for them! Made 30 bucks a disc usually!
Has anyone watched the season 3 bonus content from Best Buy? Any good?

Dead, is where I assumed. And I am eve so glad they didn't. It's like the Mirror Universe, why the hell is everyone alive, when they start showing them, yet die so quick.

I mean DS9 has their first Mirror episode and the full cast is alive, yet by the end of the run, a good number are dead.

Enterprise, start all alive, by the end many dead. If they killed people as often as they are shown, some characters should have longed departed.

I got the Season 3 Blu-Ray + BOBW feature length Blu-Ray at Target for 64.98. (Purchased in Oregon, so no sales tax :-D ) My wife and I watched Yesterday's Enterprise and it looks FANTASTIC. My wife isn't a Star Trek fan but she is really looking forward to watching TNG in HD because it looks "new" now.

Well, I watched the Documentary and some quick thoughts:

I am having mixed reactions on how I feel about this season's edition of the Documentary. I didn't mind that they focused on the writing staff and the tumultuous crap they went through, but it seemed like a lot of things were missing, like visual effects for the season, or the change in uniforms, stuff like that. It seemed like while the first two seasons went greatly in depth about everything, this season focused more on specifics and at the end, I was really wishing Michael Piller was still alive to give his side of the story. It seemed like the staff and Piller butted heads a lot, with the memos Piller would send or how hard it was to get fans scripts in. Yeah there was a lot of credit to him for saving the franchise, but I always thought Piller and the writing staff were on the same side, that it was trying to get the stories past Gene Roddenberry and Rick Berman that was always the issue. The story about Spock really shocked me, considering they brought in McCoy, the second episode was a sequel to A Naked Time, and it was an episode about Sarek. It was almost hypocritical in a way how the name "Spock" caused so much derision amongst the ranks.

I really did like the stories though, about how Moore and Echivera got onto the staff. However, the seeds for following up on episodes came a lot sooner than Sins of the Father. I've always considered The Enemy and The Defector to be Star Trek's first mini arc.

I did like Part 3 of the documentary, which focused on the cast and Frakes directing The Offspring. The stuff Spiner mentioned was great, how he was over the top, like his character in Independence Day and TNG really was his only opportunity to tone it down. I did miss Whoopi this season though, despite her being on the original season 3 features.

Looking forward to watching Inside the Writers Room and where the Documentary takes us in Season 4.

Oh yes! That will give us a good idea of how Odo's morphing will look in the (unconfirmed-but-surely-inevitable) DS9-Remastered. :)

No revisionist fanboy crap in these lovingly RESTORED episodes, please! :p

The difference is the crappy 80s planets don't exist in an HD format. Their stance on this project has been to restore everything that exists on film, including the dinky models.

Mind you, they have veered away from that with regards to some matte paintings and other fixes.

Yeah, it's a bit funny that they are ok with declaring some of the matte shots not up to HD standards but won't do that for any of the model shots.

That's true, but "not up to standards" is a very subjective term. I haven't seen that shot in HD myself - maybe it looks good enough?

Anyone care to post what that Ensigns Of Command shot looks like in HD?
