The title of the thread it's self is hardly complimentary. Love her or hate her a better title would have been

Former British PM Magret Thatcher has died.

No, I like this title just fine. I see on twitter, that some people are having a little street party at George Square in Glasgow - wonder what tunes they are playing?

The actions of a Labour-dominated union pales in significance to the Heads of State who have lined up to praise her legacy. Oh, except Mugabe. He's the only exception I have come upon so far. Probably Kirchner too.

I know which side I want to be associated with.

Truth is a three edged sword. Did Thatcher get everything right, no of course not no leader ever gets that. And she was certainly a polarising figure in British politics.

Some people seem to be having difficulties differentiating between individuals who post things and "us" or "Misc." like a disembodied group from an online forum is responsible as a whole for the words of a couple people, whether you agree or disagree with what they have to say.

Anyway, the two topics are merged.

ambitious and flawed? yes. evil and her death a cause for celebration? no.

"margaret fucking thatcher! she's only in power because a majority of the country keep voting for her!"

Cool, where is it? Like, a new island constructed in the atlantic or something? I'll tell my friends from up north their families should move there.

[edit] for the sake of serious commentary, Thatcher's actions should be placed in context - winter of discontent, Britain's poor economy in the 70s, the "sick man of europe" etc. But while the southeast gained from the sweeping free-marketeer changes, it was at rather a cost to the rest of the country.

And now we're a nation that... relies on bankers, doesn't make a lot and has large areas that are deprived and economically pretty dead.

What could have been done different in the 80s? I dunno. I'm not an economist. But while I find some displays of joy over this rather distateful (she's been irrelevant for over a decade now), I can understand where the anger comes from.

    This is an excellent point.

While I find celebrating the death of another human being to be tactless at best and downright repugnant at worst, when a person of such civil significance passes, it's important that we don't burry our heads in the sand for the day out of some false pretense of "respect." Doing so would be equally disrespectful to those directly effected by her policies and actions.

I will just note the current respectful title has nothing to do with me (not a complaint just wouldn't want anyone coming in late to think that title was my idea).
