I believe the budget was $2m per episode.

Nearly - Scorpius is a hybrid. He's part Sebacean (the race of which Peacekeepers are comprised) and part something else.

Word (he says while cringing). This is the benefit of having Henson's Creature Shop as a co-producer, and a mostly Australian production team that is not beholden to mainstream American TV assumptions. They can come up with some astonishing visual treats, even in this, a mostly standalone and comparatively unimportant adventure.

We didn't know at the time, but I hope it's not too much of a spoiler for you to say that yes, they did basically just drop him off somewhere and not mention it.

It's better to not ask where Stark is, because once you ask you will never stop asking.

Honestly, I have watched the whole thing, and numerous times he shows up and disappears randomly. When was the last time in the show he shows up?

And in case you didn't know it, the bone eating girl in this episode is Ben Browders wife in real life. She has several different characters she plays in the series.

I'm skimming here, PLEASE DON'T TELL ME SPOILERS.

I do not want to know what race Scorpious is until it comes up in the show. Or anything else.

Umm.... What spoilers are you talking about? No one said anything that hasn't been in an episode you have already seen.

Scorpius being the result of race mixing was only hinted later, no? At least that's how I remember it. And I do believe that Zhan's crime was mentioned in this thread before teacake saw the episode which revealed it.

I did watch the show without subtitles, so I might've missed something. I any case, watch out for spoilers...

Scorpious being a hybrid plays a pretty major role in stories later in the series.

If you're not sure if something has been revealed yet please.. just don't mention it.

    Family Ties Pt 1
: I'm not quite getting why Rygel wasn't airlocked at some point during this double ep.

I'm a huge fan of alien food scenes, especially if they go beyond dragonfruit and rambutans.

    I do recognize poppadoms :)

This episode seemed a little choppy but also had some great scenes.

Crais asking for asylum was an interesting turn. It's not like Moya is a country that has some obligation to take such a request seriously. All he seemingly has to offer them is not being on the loose. His making peace with Crichton over his brother's death was a great scene, at that point he loses the cardboard villain quality and takes on a complexity.

Now you're getting on the Roller Coaster Ride. Shouldn't be more then just the occasional episode here or there (If any at all) that might be a chore for you to get through now (like with any show). From here on out, the story builds most of the time, and the "finding it's legs" has begun for the Series, no more long stretches of tough episodes.

BTW, fear of revealing something you don't know yet, is why I didn't comment much in SG1 thread. It's easy to forget what happens when :alienblush:

Mind the Baby: So is Zhaan rededicating herself to the Delvian seek because she's actually afraid they're all going to die? Because it seems awfully inconvenient, indulgent and rude to the real people trying to get her attention and input. I know she steps out of it eventually but I was trying to figure out if this was something she was headed into before this episode, something that had now come upon her. But apparently no, she's just freaked out and has gone into hibernation chant mode.

Lots of what the hell moments..

    WTH?!

WTH?? oh wait, I think we did see this earlier on, I just forgot. Had a shock

WTH AGAIN! Nicely fits her physique, she's right out of a circus.

I am now super interested in seeing what becomes of Talyn and Crais. The story of the baby leviathan's confusion and attempts at loyalties and his mother's desperation was great.

    Also..

Vitas Mortis: And to think I just listed in another thread "rapid aging disease" as something I never wanted to see in science fiction again.. well at least this time it was the ship!

I agree with Crichton, energy transference is never a good thing. You just know something will go wobbly.

I like how Crichton is now wearing a peacekeeper coat he picked up somewhere, or perhaps it was left behind by Crais. He looks a bit playing dressups in that long swashbuckling thing.

I do not like how he went all Archer in the beginning when faced with stuff he didn't understand. Yelling and gun waving and butting in.

Why has D'Argo turned into Malibu Luxan? Was it freezing in space?

    Chiana's D'argo attraction is cute.

I like how this series can start an episode off without filling you in on all the background. Why were they there? What happened on the commerce planet? Much is left unsaid, D'Argo doesn't try and explain the Nilaam and who they are in his culture at all, he just lets his emotional response give us an idea. Seems to be less filling in the dumb viewer with conversational clutter than on Trek.

Taking the Stone: I got a little confused here because I thought the people on the planet might be Chiana's species. They moved in her distinctive way at times, but I guess this wasn't the case.

I think the acting is fantastic with Chiana, the movements as though she has extra joints and is extra limber.. she looks like a marionette! Her odd inflections and almost hissing way of talking.. it's a very satisfying and believable alien package.

    Transparent baby stomach!!

A ramped up blend of Miri and Terra Nova. But with no rescue of the people at the end because this isn't Star Trek

Glad you're enjoying Chiana, the last "First Time Watcher" thread, the guy hated Chiana with a passion and stopped watching the show. Taking the Stone is pretty much universally panned as being amongst the lowest of entertainment for Farscape, so, if you enjoyed this one, there's almost nothing worse in the whole series and you've got some great stuff just around the corner

I want that coat so much. It is just the best coat ever. I managed to find something as near to it as possible in a Berlin thrift store (well, 150 euro is not that thrifty...), but tbh it's a bit more Jack Harkness than John Crichton. Still - WANT.

If I recall, Gigi Edgely (Chiana actress) is indeed trained in circus arts or gymnastics or contortionism or something, and she does use that very effectively to create a convincingly alien character. The black-and-white makeup is really the smallest part of her alien-ness.

I think she's a great character! I like how she's emotionally adolescent, it's very well done. I can't imagine what anyone would hate about her.

As to lowest.. I.E.T. was the worst so far, the real clunker. Mainly because the story was so TNG.. I wouldn't have hated it if it was TNG, I would have been "meh, typical Trek" but I don't want to see that kind of story outside of Roddenberry land.

It seems a fairly basic coat, older formal attire for the pompish flair it goes into.. and you could put on the stripes and buttons. Nice military touch. If they were in gold it would be a Londo Mollari coat  It looks great.

Yeah that is so true, her alien-ness is not just the make up and hair. I am very impressed.

I agree that Star Trek is the best thing that ever happened to science fiction, and that nothing will ever come close, but why don't you stop comparing Farscape to it, and enjoy it on it's own terms?

Plus, Farscape employed Naren Shankar, a writer who wrote for TNG. Also, an episode of Farscape which you have yet to see was originally written by Shankar FOR TNG, but Berman didn't like it for reasons that I don't recall. You will find THAT story an the episode's commentary. I won't say anymore since you don't like spoliers, but I'm interested to read your thoughts on it.
