Cool! That looks like it might be JLC coming into the picture on the right. And on the left, is that the tip of a Dalek gun??

I hope he reprises his role as The Storyteller and in the special he tells the story of the Doctors to his dog. :)

Either that, or he plays a classmate of Susan's from Coal Hill School, 1963, and somehow his life keeps crossing the Doctor's into the present day.

Do people still think this story will reference anything pre-2005 (in anything beyond the most general and cursory terms)?

Can anyone read any of the text on the cover besides there names?

Awesome pic. I was starting to get a bit bummed at the likelihood of not seeing any other Docs in the special, but now I'm thinking just seeing those two together would be more than enough. :)

    One could hope. :)

It's a bit too pixelated to be sure, but it looks to me like the title on the page is "The Anniversary Special." It is definitely a three word title -- one short, one long, and one in-between.

And, per Ed Russell, that's JLC reaching for the water bottle and the nozzle of a Dalek gun on the left hand side of the picture.

I honestly think it will. And, it had better. Major FAIL if it doesn't. Not much of a 50th Anniversary if it forgets the majority of those years! However, I don't think the viewer will need to know the history in order to follow the plot.

Edward Russell has tweeted it is indeed a Dalek gun.

Well Matt Smith already said that the special celebrates the entire history of DW, but my guess is it does that through other means than by having the actual Doctors in it.

I'm hoping for a surprise classic monster appearance (Zygons!).

They can do that now as there's the actors and all to advertise with.

Eight being pulled out of Time War and regenerating in some appropriate twist would be another cool moment. It would just have to be part of the Time War somehow, but maybe it would be best to have it just as a sly reference, to keep the references to past balanced.

I still expect Daleks in the anniversary special for one simple reason -- I don't see Moffat passing up the chance to have a Dalek come at the audience in 3-D. And if he did he'd kick himself in the future when someone else, like David Yates, does.

Underwhelmed - the previous incarnation and the chav assistant, way less than I was hoping.

At least Catherine Tate hasn't been mentioned...thank heaven for small mercies.

If this ends up being doc 10.5 from that ridiculous alternate universe storyline I'm never watching Doctor Who again*

    *Of course I will.

The only official word we've had on length from the BBC is the Toy Fair poster in February, which was 60 minutes.

Due to the 3-D nature of the special and its post-production demands, I think 60 minutes is a credible length.

    However.

I imagine this could be a situation like "Journey's End" where it's written for a certain length, and if it goes over it goes over. It's not like the schedule in November is set in stone yet. If the special runs 75 minutes, the schedule can still accommodate that. :)

Yeah, I doubt we'll get 90 mins but I won't be surprised in the least if it runs a fair bit over 60
