I thought Gaith's thread was the official discussion thread? Anyway...I love the new suit. The new eye piece does a tremendous job of putting more expression in the mask, and the expanded Spider-Logo on the chest is terrific.

I actually liked the narrower, classic-Spidey eyes (although I realize I was in the minority on that), but this new suit does look pretty good.

And it looks like they got rid of the wavy stripes on the legs as well.

Based on that image they've essentially returned to the costume used in the Raimi movies - the eye is bigger but the fabric pattern, color and the design and treatment of the webbing are virtually identical to the costume used in Raimi's movies and have little in common with the suit used in the last movie.

Guess the suits at Sony put their foot down about the suit.

I'm glad it doesn't look like a human-shaped basketball anymore, but it still looks implausibly high-tech for something a high-schooler put together in his bedroom. The web pattern should be more of a silkscreen sort of thing dyed into the fabric, not this raised rubber layer.

The eyes are kind of McFarlane-ish, but not bad.

Maybe, but the silver webbing is much less pronounced than on the Raimi suit, and the fact this Spidey is so much taller and leaner makes a bit difference as well.

As much as I love the Raimi movies, I never really cared for how short and stocky his Spidey was.

And the eyes are bigger and the design of the spider emblem is different. But those things are trivial. They've gone from the rubbery-looking suit with the embossed texture and webbing and emblem back to a fabric suit with a cell pattern silkscreened on to it and plastic webbing/emblem applied on top of that - all virtually identical to the Raimi design. The web pattern itself, on the mask, has also returned to that used in the Raimi version and most of the comics.

So, they ditched the ASM suit altogether in favor of the established one with a few minor variations.

Yep. I've always longed for a Spidey movie in which the suit looks like cheap store-bought rubbish. Kinda like Kick-Ass.

The caption for this photo says it was from filming 'a few days ago'. However, it looks like the old suit? I'm going to assume it's bullshit reporting though as it's from The Daily Fail but you never know...

The raised rubber webbing is doable at home with a bit of ingenuity. It's possible to reproduce the effect (and cosplayers have) using this rubbery "puff" fabric paint sold at sewing stores. It's a huge investment of time to outline all the webs by hand, but you can in effect sit in your bedroom and do it for very little monetary cost.

The more implausible part is, in fact, the silk-screened dye pattern, which require a process called dye sublimation to make and does have to be handled professionally.

Also, building the web-shooter thingies stretches plausibility quite a bit.

Interesting, though from what I can find online, the puff paint's lines don't look quite as smooth and molded as the ones in the poster. Although I guess I can buy the "bit of ingenuity" thing better here than I can with Maguire, because this Peter Parker is more clearly a gifted inventor and scientist than his screen predecessor.

But I liked the way TASM suggested that Peter bought a pre-existing spandex athletic outfit with a fancy pattern built in and modified it with the mask and spider detailing. For all I quip about the "basketball" look, at least that texture looked as though it might be somewhat functional and high-tech rather than just decorative.

Peter could save up the money and go to a shop. He tells the designer he's making a spider-man costume for Halloween

Best costume gets first prize of 300 dollars(lie)

    Or it's for a children's hospital

    Suit gets made.

Spider-man moves so fast the designer won't even be able to tell its their costume.

From what I've seen, the puff-paint results can vary based on how steady the artist's hand is. The really good stuff done by professional seamstresses is crisp. Parker's got super-human coordination in addition to being ingenious, so I have no problem handwaiving away that he could do even better than that. It's spider-powers, baby.

So what do you guys think of Woodley? A lot of the reactions I've seen to the set pics of her have been fairly negative. A lot of people think she isn't pretty enough for to be MJ, but I have no problem with how she looks in the pics.

She looks like a real world girl, not a pin up. They might pretty her up a bit more.
But I can buy her as a high school student. She looks a bit like an older Ginny Weasley...

MJ, however, is supposed to be gorgeous and way out of Peter's league. Emma Stone is much more of a MJ type than this girl is. She's cute and everything but she's not the super-model, drop-dead, gorgeous that MJ is supposed to be.

    It's pretty terrible casting, IMHO.

I'm afraid that I have to agree, despite the fact that Shaylene is cute as hell. IMO, both sets of Spider-movies have cast perfect Mary Janes... except they both casted them as Gwen Stacy.

They didn't have the money to hire a pin up after spending it all on the visual effects.

There's something wrong if your Gwen Stacey portrayal looks hotter than your Mary Jane.

She looks like plain Jane. MJ's suppose to be this perfect 10 with family issues
