There are no words in Vulcan, Klingon, or the tongues of Men for this treachery!

THis is going to be hilarious to read all the reactions.

The oddest thing since Abrams became involved with Trek was fans, pro and con, treating him like he was new Roddenberry or new long term caretaker of the franchise. Same thing with the new actors.

These are merely a series of films. Not a new tv years. They will do a certain number of films and move on to something else. How long that will be was always the question not if it would happen.

To be honest I'm not that worried about the 3rd one yet.
Let's see how STID does, both in quality and box office, first.
And of course what Abrams and Bad Robot have to say about the whole thing.

Variety has now confirmed it (which makes it true) and, yes, Harrison is Khan.

JJ Abrams is a person who not only likes to direct, but also create new things. I doubt he'll want to jump from one space opera he didn't create to another.

Remember when George Lucas said there would be no Star Wars sequels, even after his death? $4,000,000,000 later he's changed his tune.

    Everybody has a price.

Actually, whether true or not, this story shows all that's wrong with journalism in the era of the InterWeb. If you Google it, a bunch of sites are picking up the story now and running with it, including "The Huffington Post". The only souce they all site for the information is the story from "The Wrap". Whatever happened to doing real journalism and confirming stories before running with them?

But if it is true, more power to him. He left "Star Trek" in great shape. It will survive. It's no different than a pro player leaving a team for a chance to go play for the one he's loved all his life.

It was always likely that each film of this new trilogy would be directed by a different person. I could see that as appealing to Abrams. He can do episode 7 and move on. But with Trek he feels like he has to oversee it now.

Much like Zack Snyder and Man of Steel, Abrams will have to work within the framework of Star Wars. Disney will likely require lens flares and "shakey-cam" be kept to a minimum if not eliminated entirely.

If the Star Wars rumor is true, he'll likely be overseeing Trek 3 from a producers chair.

Which was always a possibility anyway, Star Wars or not.

This should be a good fit for Abrams. Good for him.

It does make a different director for the next Trek movie a likelihood; OTOH, perhaps Paramount will be willing to wait their turn. They waited four years for Into Darkness.

My point is I think he would prefer that.

He will be the only person to be able to say he directed a Star Trek and Star Wars film. He will continue to only produce Trek and only direct one Star Wars. Than be able to move on to his own projects. Instead of always being asked about if he will direct the next Trek film.

Cant say I'd be sorry to see him go. I loved Alias but I’ve been under whelmed by everything he’s done since the last trek film included though he did do a good job of getting a wider audience interested in Trek than had been in years. I suppose he’s a sensible choice for the new Star Wars, his trek work was clearly very influenced by Star Wars.

I like this news. It's exciting.

Abrams is a much better director than Orci and Kurtzman are writers, so I'm glad to see him attached to a neat sci-fi project that those two aren't involved with. And ST09 had a very Star Wars-type energy already, so he's shown he can get the vibe right.

Uh, sorry...no. Not today. Not ever.

I'm trying to give a fuck.

    Well, not actually.

BTW, what would make it an "official" lie to Star Trek? Would he have to say it to Star Trek's face in the presence of witnesses and a notary?

I feel happy for JJ and thinks he will do a good job. I am a marginal Star Wars fan but I bet their core fan base is happy. I do have concerns about the 3rd film.
