Oh, I didn't realize the name was a combination of both of theirs. All it calls them on their bio on their official website is Ilona and Gordon.

Gordon is their surname Andrew is her husbands first name not sure why the bio has him listed by the surname?

As well as Kate Daniels they also write a series of books the Edge chronicles which also take place in a very vivid imaginative world with interesting twisty plots.

I haven't decided if I want to check out The Edge yet. I'll probably wait until I finish the KD series before I make my final decision.

The Dresden Files books are personal favorites of mine.

Jim Butcher has a talent for good storytelling that so far has never failed to satisfy.

I took a mini vacation from work to read Cold Days and I'm already dying to read the next one. Book 15 aka Skin Game (or Bag Man) involves a Heist and since it's a multiple of 5, Nicodemus and the Denarians should be showing up on schedule.

    Can't wait!

Only other Modern Fantasy tales I've read thus far are the Quincey Morris and Libby Chastain Occult Investigators series by Justin Gustainis.

    Black Magic Woman
    Evil Ways
    Sympathy For The Devil
    Playing With Fire
    (TBA)
    Midnight at the Oasis (TBA)

At one point, Morris & Chastain pass through Chicago and end up at McAnally's... Once I knew that I had to read them. lol.

Sorry, Technobuilder, it's OK we're up to speed. Bob summoned me from the Nevernever when he found it. Will you be interested in Jim's new steampunk venture? I have to say I didn't warm to the Codex Alera very much.

You read them quick enough considering you didn't warm to them. I thought you preferred them to Game of Thrones and the like?

I read them quickly because I didn't warm to them. In contrast I deliberately took ages to read the last Dresden and even then went into withdrawal afterwards.

How sad are we? Living from one Ben to the next Jim and so on. Paul Hoffman's third Thomas Cale book is out at the end of January so I suppose that's something.

I finished up the first Kate Daniels novel, Magic Burns last night and I loved it. Kate was a great character, she was sarcastic without being annoying and she kicked ass, two things I love in these kinds of characters. I love the world that was created around her, it was definitely one of the more unique urban fantasy universes I've come across yet. My rating: 5/5

No problem! I just wish Jim hadn't gotten sick this book tour and we'd gotten 2 more Q&A videos.

I'm sorry you didn't seem to warm to Codex Alera, but I rather enjoyed the world of Carna and wouldn't mind going back some day. Of course, as always, it was the characters and their relationships that got me. Max was the best friend a guy could have. Ehren, all at once unassumingly and yet scarily capable. The Carnim, The Icemen. I'd love to go back in a hundred and fifty years and see what the world looks like then.

As for the Steampunk Series... I'm game.
I've never been "into" steampunk, but it's a nifty concept and I think I will enjoy whatever Butcher does at this point regardless of genre.

If I had a preference though I'd love to see his Dresden Spin-Off series featuring the Special Collections Division of the Library of Congress. (aka the Dresdenverse Goverment Body Clued-in and Capable of dealing with the Supernatural)

I'm thinking about starting one more UF series, but I can't decide between The Iron Druid Chronicles, the October Daye series, or the Mercy Thompson series. Any advice?

Just wanted to let any The Hollows fans on here know that the newest book in the series Ever After came out today. I'm only on the third book in the series, Every Which Way But Dead, so it'll be a while before I get to that one.

Hey how is it going with the urban fantasy reading? did you get any further with the Hollows or Kate Daniels series? Have you tried the Mercy Thompson series yet? I very much recommend that one.

I haven't read any of them yet, but I do own books 3-7 of The Hollows. Right now I'm around 250 pages into The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, so far I've really enjoyed it. I also picked up the first Iron Druid Chronicles book, Hounded. Hounded and Every Which Way But Dead are going to be two of the next things I read. The second Kate Daniels book, and the 7th Dresden Files book are my next planned purchases.
EDIT: I decided to splurge and I picked up Dead Beat (Dresden Files #7) and Magic Burns (Kate Daniels #2), which are immediately jumping towards the top of my to read list.
In the next few months I definitely plan on reading:
    Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles #1)
    The Hollows 3-7
    Dead Beat
    Magic Burns
Bitten (Women of the Other World #1)
Dead as a Doornail (Southern Vampires #5)
    Moon Called (Mercy Thompson #1)
Kitty & the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville #1)
Rosemary & Rue (October Daye #1)
Midnight Riot (Rivers of London #1)
City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2)
    Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl #1)
Percy Jackson & The Lightening Theif (Percy Jackson #1)
    I might also check out:
Magic to The Bone (Allie Beckstrom #1)
    Ill Wind (Weather Wardens #1)
    Night Shift (Jill Kismet #1)
Obviously this might change if I burn out on UF or find other stuff that interests me more.

Although authors Barb and J.C. Hendee don't consider it such, the Saga of the Noble Dead is something that I think qualifies as 'urban fantasy', albeit of the medieval variety.

A series that is definitely 'urban fantasy' but that hasn't been mentioned yet is L.A. Banks' The Vampire Huntress Legend Series.
