In the trailer, the Jjprise seems to be rising from underwater. Is that just a matter of more power to the SIF and defectors from being inside a gaseous atmosphere?

In VOY episode "Thirty Days", they had the Delta Flyer reconfigured to go underwater.

Janeway stated it would take a few weeks to get Voyager ready to do that where as Delta Flyer would've been done in a few days.

If Starfleet was properly super prepared, every Starship would've been underwater and atmospheric ready.

But that's how I would run Starfleet. Be super prepared for everything. Not leave stuff to chance and improvization.

Improvization is done when necessary, but crazy preparedness is how our US military trains so they can deal with just about any situation.

That's not the JJprise rising from underwater. It looks totally different. It's a different ship, or I need new glasses.

The JJprise does appear to be splashing down in one scene though.

You can see the registry on the nacelle of the ship rising up, it's 1701. The ship crashing down looks like it has different nacelles and pylons from the Enterprise.

Watch the trailer in HD, the rising scene is the Enterprise on an alien ocean, the splash down is a small frigate in the SF bay area.

I think it's the reverse. The Enterprise rising from the water and a different ship splashing down (that one has straight rather than semi-curved nacelle pylons and actual nacelles more in line with the Nova-class).

The first few times I watched it, I thought the nacelles of the 'rising-from-the-water' vessel did not look right for the Enterprise, but then I grabbed my model for comparison and -in watching the video again- I think it IS either Enterprise or a ship of the same class. I just can not make out any lettering beyond "NCC"... so I'll have to take Festivus Toad's word for it!

I have no idea what you guys think you are watching.

The ship rising looks nothing at all like the Enterprise nor is the registry visible after NCC part. This scene is around the middle of the trailer.

The ship "crashing down" has the exact silhouette of the Enterprise. This scene is toward the end of the trailer.

It's possible the rising ship is either the Enterprise, and what's visible is only the nacelles (the back first and then the bulkier front ends, followed by what looks like part of the saucer just before the switch), that both views are the Enterprise or they're both a new ship that looks similar but is a different class. Kind of doubtful they'd include that in the trailer unless the villain is associated with Starfleet, but you never know. :p I couldn't see a registry, only NCC on the nacelle.

The old Enterprise was immersed/submerged inside the giant space ameoba in "The Immunity Syndrome" and was able to maneuver around on impulse power. It probably could've done it with warp if it wasn't power starved. As long as it had all it's vents closed (see "Obsession") they shouldn't have a problem with leaks or pressure.

The JJ-verse ships should be able to do the same, IMO.

No it doesn't. The nacelle pylons are far too wide and the nacelles themselves are the wrong size and shape. Actually, the crashing ship is rather similar to the Enterprise-E except its saucer is much wider.

After re-examining the image and comparing the nacelle at Ex-Astris-Scientia, where he has a graphic of the starboard profile, I agree with others that the ship is the Enterprise. Now, what is that ship doing in the water? Whatever reason the ship is in the water, the moment that it rises out of the water may be one of the highlights of the film.

Two words: fluidic space. If Voyager managed just fine, the Enterprise can too.

Although I wouldn't want to be nearby sea life...

That'd depend a lot on fluid pressure and viscosity and whatnot, tho.

The "operations" in the teaser might be limited to being just below the surface to hide from visual spotting. Or we might see some Jacques Cousteau action to round out the skydives of the first movie and the lava dancing evident here. Won't do to neglect any of the elements.

I now stand convinced that the ship crashing down is not the Enterprise, unless the Enterprise in this film is re-designed for some reason.

I still can't see the ship rising from the water as being the Enterprise. The nacelles look wrong to me, and I see no evidence of a saucer.

^ That's because the saucer is well below the plane of the nacelles even in level flight. In this case, the nacelles are breaking the surface of the waves while the saucer is still under water.

You can get a peak at those black and white lines on the saucer, which is about to surface, just below the water. Plus the NCC 17... on the nacelle.
And the fact that they wouldn't waste such a money shot on any other ship than the Enterprise.
