^And Siddig El Faddil originally was invited to read for the role of Sisko. THe producers thought he was a lot older than he actually was, as he had so convincingly played an older character in Lawrence After Arabia.

S.H.I.E.L.D to star Clark Gregg as agent Phil Coulson.

    What? Really?

It's like Whedon got tired of hearing Christopher constantly saying that no character from the movies will ever appear on the show, and wanted to prove him wrong!;)

Good news. I guess this will be a prequel to the movie.

    Coulson earth 2?

If it is the same movie Coulson I hope the show makes some jab(pun intended) at Coulson's movie death.

Earth-2 is a DC thing. This would be the Coulson from Counter-Earth. ;)

There was plenty of speculation after Avengers that maybe he wasn't really dead at all, just badly wounded and Nick Fury being Nick Fury, so it'll probably be the same Coulson. This sounds good to me!

It's funny how on a day when DC was given such bad news about two of their cartoons, Marvel has this great news to make everybody happy.

It's official...I'll for sure be watching S.H.I.E.L.D. (I'm sure Marvel is relieved.)

    Coulson lives!

Although IMDB doesn't have him listed, I wonder if Iron Man 3 might include a surpirse Coulson cameo, possibly in the end credits scene as a means of setting things up for the show?

I'm not thinking prequel at all. Why think that?

As noted the 'net was a buzz that Coulson may not fully be dead. The idea that a cheat is being created should surprise no one.

I'll be disappointed if it is a prequel, there are so many more options with it running parallel to the MCU. Episodes can flashback, during and around the existing MCU. If it's a prequel they are largely stuck pre IM and TIH.

I think that Clark Gregg really enjoys having fun with the fans. Before Avengers was released he scoffed at the notion that Coulson might die in the movie. And, as I pointed out in post 132 of this thread, he flat out said that Coulson was dead on a slab and wouldn't be a part of the show, and yet he was always the focus.

Joss teased us about the fate of Coulson prior to the film as well. We know what he does with characters he loves the most:) This is interesting news. I'm a little conflicted, but trust in Joss and know that however Coulson is dealt with it will be awesome.

Ha, I love this. The first time I saw Avengers, I was sure he was dead. But upon repeat viewing, and after watching a lot of other random Avengers cartoons the last few weeks, it would not surprise me at all to find that Nick Fury was just lying to get what he wanted out of the team.

Very excited to hear this. I can't wait to see the show. I've been a fan of Clark Gregg since I watched New Adventures For Old Christine.

What?? I never said that! I merely quoted what was stated by the producers that the show would not center on any MCU character as a regular. I stated multiple times, damn it, that it was certainly possible that there would be guest appearances by movie characters. I don't understand why people keep misreading my statements that something would be uncommon or unlikely as "absolutely never." Is it really so hard to read what I actually write? And why the hell blame me for the earlier statement when I was just repeating what the producers themselves said? Why make this about me at all?
