^ That bit about best of the year, that's sarcasm right?

I'm usually pretty lucky with bugs in games. Last night was quite interesting though. I was walking up to one of the orc strongholds and nothing loaded. No buildings, no furniture, etc,. It was kind of funny seeing orcs sitting on air, bent over working on imaginary tables. I kept walking through what should have been walls, making my screen flash oddly and then it froze and I had to reboot.

Then I was fighting a dragon that just sort of hung there. I always put two perk points into the slow-mo for archery (which equals a 50% slow down) but this dragon was slowed by about 98% without my aiming and when I sited with my bow it just froze in the air not moving.

    And then it crashed again.

    Good times. :)

I'm struggling to recall any bugs other than broken quests, like from going to an area before I'm supposed to.

Quest breakingbugs are everywhere, as are bugs with pathfinding for NPCs you're supposed to escort. Certain spells/effects can cause NPCs to bounce right off the face of the planet, clip through the ground and fall forever or get lodged in terrain features. The force shout does this a lot, especially if used out-doors. I've pulled it off with rushing power-attacks, too. I also get like 1/6 dragons not giving up their souls when I frag them. But there's so many of the damn things, I have more souls than powers to unlock, anyway.

They need to fix the broken quests, though. Top priority. I can ignore the physics issues.

Supposedly the 1.4 patch addressed lots of broken quests, particularly the ones where you'd find an item somewhere before being given the actual quest and never be able to turn it in since you already had it. But... that didn't happen.

I found a misc. quest recently that was new to me, getting these special void salts for some ship's captain. But, since I found the item randomly before getting the quest... broken. Also had a new break in the Bard's College starting quest, where the ghost won't open the sealed door.

Bethesda should be paying us to Beta test their games, not making us pay for the "privilege".

And I've had a few people get stuck in objects if I sneak attack and kill them. I've had them go right through the bed or chair they were on then I can't interact with the body to retrieve any quest related items.

it's not hidden, but difficult to get a good view of it without console commands

the story of the tower is that it was built by the Heartland High Elves, or Ayleids before humans arrived. White Gold Tower is the tallest structure in Cyrodiil and the Imperial City was built around it. The tower is also the Emperor's palace and home to the Elder Council and the Elder Scrolls.

as for bugs, I haven't encountered anything as severe as Josan describes . . .

Some quest breakers can be fixed with a reload. And I was going to reload my Bard's College boo-boo but then I decided I was bored and didn't want to run through the dungeon again just to see if the ghost would do his job the second time so I went and got something to eat.

It's different for everyone but I've had more issues since the latest patch than I did before. Lydia disappears almost every time I enter a dungeon only to reappear when I exit. Textures don't load. I get random freezes/crashes. I need something new and better than a Besthesda beta for an rpg fix (not that an action/adventure hack n slash with extremely limited options counts as an rpg). Hmm... maybe I'll dig my old pc out of storage and replay Planescape-Torment...

Well, if that's the only way, it sounds hidden to me, like they didn't mean for people to see it. They probably meant for people to get a good view of it from somewhere in Skyrim at one point.

Heh and I meant the history in terms of details about it being in Skyrim.

Personally, the only bugs I've encountered have been very minor, like AI glitches and an NPC getting killed leading to me being unable to finish a small quest. That's it, though.

Where do people fall on the weapons issue? I've been using a two hander this entire time, but I recently just used the Dawnbreaker against the zombies and I like how it swings faster and I have a free hand for magic. The two hander swings so damn slowly. I'm thinking of sticking with one hand.

I like using a two-hander. In particular, I've been using Wuuthrad ever since I got it from one of the quests. I don't mind the slow speed, as becomes more efficient the more you put into two-handers.

Having fun playing this while waiting for ME3. Haven't hit many bugs and only had one crash during a loading screen, but the autosave worked so I didn't lose anything.

I switch back and forth between 1 and 2 handers, and I almost never use bows

Bows are awesome for making people take an arrow to the knee and ending their adventuring career ;)

Since I started playing, I've gone with one-handed so that I could also use magic. It works out fine, though in general I think close combat feels pretty clunky - it doesn't have a very responsive feel to landing blows.

That's why lately I've been appreciating sneaking around and using the bow. When it's possible to kill bad guys with one hit, it's very satisfying to see them fly backwards from the impact of the arrow. It feels very stealthy and efficient.

At some point I'd like to try double handed magic... like a heal spell in one and destruction spell in the other. Has anyone tried that out? I don't think I'd feel safe wearing mage robes instead of armor!

I was using double handed magic most of the time... mostly destruction spells, sometimes also a combination of destruction and healing. However I was wearing enchanted light armor.

You can actually take the robe enchantments and apply them to armour!
