Personally I'd be annoyed by an LCARS framing, I want the picture surrounded by black so nothing distracts from it. There's a reason why so many TVs have black bezels, and why content creation software often chooses dark color schemes ...

I do believe they are talking about an optional LCARS frame.

I doubt I'd use it to watch the show properly, but it would definitely be a cool thing to do provided they made sure it framed the image without obscuring anything.

Agreed. However, as long as it is optional and doesn't take away any time from the main project, I see no problems with this. If the black bars are so bothersome to some then maybe this is a good way for them to overcome this issue.

Yeah. It would also be a handy way of accessing multiple audio commentaries too if you like that sort of thing.

...or it would be a fun way to present any text commentaries that hopefully the Okudas will be asked to provide!

They could also include a TrekBBS text commentary:

Don't forget other nitpick gems appearing during the nerd commentry like:

The font is slightly altered and a lighter shade of blue!
The warp stars STILL do not go in the right direction based on the current perspective of the ship!
There is only one window above the airlock!
The saucer rim windows are lit!
There are two black bars on the RCS thrusters, CGI Blasphemy!
The transporter beams do not reflect onto the perspex floor! (they didn't in the original though!)
They didn't include the light bleed from the shuttlebays on the CGI model!
They didn't fix the stars on the ringed planet flyby!
Why didn't they invest a bit more money in Tasha Yar's stuntdouble WIG????

Actually, now that I've viewed in HD I'm no-longer sure that's a light-leak by the shuttle bay but is light shining around the shuttlebay door. The higher clarity of the HD makes that a bit more clear.

Now this IS a valid complaint. I'm sure the original version was like that due to limitations. That transition looks so off, It completely takes me out of the moment, and is definitely something that should have been fixed, along with the direction of the starfield motion when the Enterprise is making those 3 passes toward the screen.

Do it twitter style, like that Mac screensaver :D

No, it's not. I doubt it was due to limitations, IMHO it's clearly meant to be an interesting-looking wipe between shots. If it was due to limitations, the line wouldn't be within the rings but at their edge. It makes no sense for the transition not to happen anyway, as the scale difference would then be completely ridiculous. I've always considered that effect very cool personally.

Some people just want to see "mistakes" everywhere.

The mis-matched stars are a mistake that happened between re-doing the opening sequence and when it goes to the one that didn't need to be remade. It's always been there and even the creators of this project had said it's a "beloved mistake" they left in as an "easter egg" of sorts.

Yeah, but why not just treat it as an acceptable transition instead of getting in a tizzy over it? The planets disappear when the Enterprise goes past where they should be...how come no one complains about that?

(The answer is, "Because it doesn't matter.");)

Like Sho I just can't see this as a mistake or a mis-match.

In Okuda's interview his discussed how it was originally in the credits as a transition, because that was the only way to do change between the new planet shot and the old enterprise shot. He then stated that they decided to keep the TNG-R credits consistent with the original and recreate the transition as it was.

Well they did change it a little. The stars in the outer ring now match the ones with the Enterprise, instead of veering off with the others. Which now just makes the whole thing look even more confusing.

But whatever, I can live with it. The overall sequence is still pretty amazing.

I kinda the new 'between the rings' transition. What always bothered me about the SD version was that it looked like they were trying to mask the mismatched starfields in a way they hoped no one would notice. I say this is how it appeared, because until reading this thread I never even considered it being a deliberate choice.

With the HD version being at once more obvious, and subtly more stylized, I can accept this as a stylistic wipe, much like the 'white-outs' that precede it. Thanks to my fellow Trekkies for once again making me realize something that may have been there all along and for the HD remaster to give me an excuse to revisit this title sequence which I routinely skip past.

I popped in the DVD after watching the blu ray, and on a 54" screen the DVD is nearly unwatchable haha. Seriously, the resolution is so low and the art so muted that I've had no interest or attraction to this title sequence in years. The blu ray has caused me to appreciate it once again, and I also appreciate the choice to blend the starfields more artistically between the rings. Makes the choice seem much more deliberate. :techman:
