Supposedly he was up for Bard. I can live with him not being Bard so long as it doesn't become an extended Legolas for no reason.

A Script in development is not first draft to me. It means people talking about it and making their own treatments and wasting a lot of time. To me a first draft means they have an entire plot in place and are decided on who they want and what is going to happen, then the fleshing begins. Remember those other two dudes who had credit for something done really early?

A first draft still means it is being worked on and developed. I never said it was finished. First Class had over six writers on it, and multiple attempts before it became the movie we all know and love. The important thing is that Fox seems interested in developing it and some progress is happening. Again we most likely won't have any further definitive word on the sequel until next year sometime. I'd hardly call it wasting time.

'zactly...Shows serious intent to do a sequel. It's now up to the developers to present a story that makes the $$$ want to commission the sequel

I'm just going to point out that drafts of sequels to Superman Returns were "in the works" as well and Routh signed to star. I want more than lip service, till then I'm not getting my hopes too elevated.

What hopes? I don't get all this "panicking" or "concern". There is a first draft being written right now. Both of the film's stars have expressed interest in returning once there is a story in place and everything is green lit. There have been various story ideas talked about between the involved parties. There is no director yet but that could change very quickly. Early stages means early stages. It's like some of you expect Fox to come right out right now and say we're filming right now or something. Sigh.

In fairness when they are certain, more times than not, things sound more certain. Even filming dates get locked down. Fox has done it before with the franchise. Marvel Studios nails down dates for IM3 and Thor 2, thus giving us ideas of just when filming will start.
Some projects have their own gravitas like TDKR where Warners is clearly going to let things go at Nolan's pace but that is a unique situation.

Yes Captain, it seems like it is just a line, yeah yeah, it's being worked on, like what you say when the boss asks for the report you haven't done yet.

I'm not panicking, I just think they are either barely along and are just saying it, or a draft of some sort is further along but needs a lot of work or could be crap and get tossed out.

I agree, I might be happy to hear an idea. Sinister will be part of the JFK assassination or whatnot. We're adding Storm! You know, something concrete of where they are going instead of more time spent on tossing out draft after draft where nothing happens but oh yeah, it is being worked on. ;)

Fantastic Four just miffs me. I was totally surprised it was made 60s retro like where the comic begins in the first place, and it was just totally dumbed down. But I did like the cast, and it is totally weird to just reboot all these shows so soon.

Man I wish the WGA or somebody could make a rule that you should wait 5 or 10 years before you can reboot something. I mean, how far removed are we from Spiderman 3? Can't you let you work be tested by time for a little while? Wouldn't that be the best measure of its goodness? I mean, they are already taking about how to change Batman again before Rises is even out yet. Let a film stew for goodness sake.

X-Men floundered in their previous 2, it had been 10 years since the original, it was time for First Class.

Now, so I won't drive the Admiral, too crazy, just yet!! What in the heck is the sequel going to be called?! :)

They are barely along. The first draft is being worked on right now. Like I said, FC2 (for lack of a better abbreviation) won't be along until Summer 2014 at the earliest. That's two and a half years away. We probably won't start hearing a lot of news until later next year.

The bottom line is, we don't know. As has been said, there was talk of a sequel to Superman Returns for a while, then it became less and less frequent until it became apparent that it wouldn't happen. Much the same happened with Daredevil.

On the other hand, the original X-Men movie didn't originally look successful enough to get a sequel and even when it looked like it would get one, there was talk that Singer wouldn't be re-hired. Even Batman Begins didn't have a sequel greenlit right away. Few would have bet on a sequel to Ghost Rider but that's happening.

There's not an awful lot to be gained from looking at what happened with other franchises or even with previous movie incarnations of X-Men. Bottom line is - if Fox feel that First Class was successful enough to warrant a sequel and that the sequel will make them money, then there'll be one. If they don't - there won't.

We've also heard ideas from Vaughn (Mangeto being involved with the Kennedy assassination and the magic bullet) and Singer stating he liked the Vietnam War. Singer also stated that there would be one more additional character added.

I'd like to see the X-Men bump into Dr. Manhattan, Voldemort and Wolverine... all in Vietnam.

Wolverine already will be in "The Wolverine" by the time First Class 2 comes out and they've already done the cameo already. There's no need to use him again.

    Indeed.

While his cameo in First Class was brilliantly executed, I'd prefer they stay away from force-feeding us another Wolverine appearance in the next film. I can understand why they'd want to, and I very much suspect they will find a way to shoehorn him in to First Class 2, but if I had my druthers I'd prefer they not do it.
