Rian Johnson's science fiction movie Looper from Brick director.
It's a violent time travel movie
Veteran producer Ram Bergman is producing with Endgame, which also is financing.

Interesting but sounds like Timecop (1994) or Minority Report (2002) with a The Terminator (1984) twist.

Rian Johnson's LOOPER script is the futuristic noir we've been waiting for

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was at UCLA a little bit ago and mentioned this project--he was pretty excited about it.

I'm a little hesitant after the middling THE BROTHERS BLOOM, but BRICK was an excellent film for a first time director and the subject matter is certainly interesting here. I hope it comes together.

There are some on-set photos that show off the art direction of this film which looks like art deco meets futuristic-looking vehicles.

I like the costumes which with the hats look like a 1930s era world.
    Looking forward to this.

    It comes out next year.

I like JGL and time travel, but I have to admit I hated Brick.

I wonder if they'll explore the morality of executing a person for a crime they haven't committed but will commit.

From what ive read time travel isnt being used as a method of preventing or punishing crime. Rather it's an elaborate method of murder and body disposal being used by the Mob. So it's probably unlikely that will come up.

The marketing machine for this movie is starting to kick into gear, and its first reveal is the official poster. The teaser trailer will be released next Thursday.

Yea, but to be fair, I think this is gonna be a period piece that takes place essentially in the 1930's. Sort of a future AU type cat and mouse game. The whole reason they are closing the loop may be because he was unwilling to kill his future self in the first place.

Looper, Jumper, Timecop, there's a lot of on-the-nose names here.

This looks pretty amazing! I loved Johnson and Gordon-Levitt's last collaboration "Brick", so I'm really looking forward to this one.

Looks like a solid rental. Is Gordon-Levitt trying to dress up as Jean-Paul Belmondo there? ;)

The interesting and unusual thing about Twelve Monkeys is that they went with the "you can't change the timeline no matter what" philosophy of time travel. Which has the value of logic but can be difficult to create a story around. Who wants to see a movie where nobody can do nuthin? :rommie:

For that reason, Looper probably won't be a 'might as well sit on your hands' type of time travel movie.

They managed to create a pretty interesting thriller out of Time Crimes (a Spanish film, although it may be remade) with that premise. But I doubt Looper will be going that route, especially with major studio backing and a young writer/director who is still relatively unknown.
