Saw it this weekend and loved it.. I will agree that it felt rushed as a way to set up The Avengers, but it was well executed, non the less. It would be cool to see a return to the WWII era, but it would be hard since most of his involvement focused around finding and defeating the Red Skull... If they went back to that, what would their antagonist be?

Baron Zemo.

In the comics, Zemo and Skull were set up as rivals. Perhaps during Rogers mission against Hydra he runs into a plot set up by Zemo. Since the movie shows Hydra having broken away from the Third Riech, Hitler sets up Zemo as his chief scientist.

This story could be bookended by something occurring in the present day that reminds Cap of Zemo. Perhaps Zemo's son (probably grandson after 70 years) seeking revenge against Rogers for his father's defeat/death.

Wasn't Zemo the younger responsible for establishing the Thunderbolts? This could segue into that.

IMO - WAY better than GL and about on par to a bit better than Thor.

They can do Baron Zemo for a WWII sequel, and then maybe "Captain America No More!" for a third film.

Though for the latter, it'd have to be a long movie since that was one LONG storyline.

Early word was that for any likely/possible sequel it would only be, at best, WWII flashbacks. Not a full on movie set in WWII. The montage of taking out Hydra bases is where any other flashback could occur.

There hasn't been any word on Hugo Weaving being in The Avengers that I've heard of, so the second Cap movie might likely be the return of the Red Skull.

It'd be easy to have both Baron Zemos be the villain(s) in Captain America 2, with Helmut posing some threat in the modern era and Cap flashing back to a run-in with Heinrich back during World War II.

I enjoyed the movie. They captured the essence of Cap and the story was half decent. It was good but not great, probably on par with Thor. If anything, the rush to get Cap into the modern age meant that they had to speed through his wartime adventures leaving not enough development with Peggy, Bucky, and the Howling Commandoes, although I thought his relationship with Stark developed nicely. I understand why they did it but a smaller story with some looser plot threads would have appealed to me more. Overall the action was good and the casting was great. I'd be quite happy to see a Cap 2 set in flashback or a modern story introducing Falcon.

As part of the movie franchise, I think a story akin to the Bloodstone Hunt would work brilliantly - really mixing Indy overtones in there. I'd love to see modern movie versions of the Serpent Society with some decent snake-skin outfits instead of orange spandex. Even the second rate avengers including Nomad, Demlotion Man, Falcon, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Mockingbird for minor support would work as a sort of costumed mission impossible team.

They signed Bucky for multiple movies, so I'm guessing the sequel would be the Winter Soldier.

Is it possible that when the Red Skull used the Cube and was zapped (possibly to Asgard)that that was the other passage to Earth that Loki discovered in Thor?

I'd just like to take a moment to note that I have, at times, been accused of saying that each and every action movie would be better with a lipstick lesbian heroine than your standard het male. So, I'm sure the question on all your minds is, does Gaith think Cap should have been a hot lady-kissing dame in this particular film?

I enjoyed the movie for what it was, and give it a B+. The setting and tone would not have been kind to a female Cap (I could really have used without that British dame storming the complex), and the story was interesting enough as is. So while I may endorse the adaptation/substituting of lipstick lesbian protagonists in the place of such uninteresting characters as, say, Lara Croft or Green Lantern, let the record please show that I'm not a total dogmatist on this point.

Sebastian Stan signed a nine film deal and has talked about the Winter Soldier in his press junket interviews and I think Joe Johnston mentioned the character a couple of times before. As I mentioned a few pages ago I think the way Cap found Bucky was a way for them to explain the character.

Yeah as far as any one knows Hugo Weaving isn't in "The Avengers" but I wouldn't be surprised if we got some kind of cameo from him. They could do the General Lukin/Skull/Winter Solider stuff in "Captain America 2".

Speaking of which, did they ever address why Thor's Asgardians speak modern English? Are they just low-level telepaths or something?

^ I can't remember if they addressed that issue in the movie or not. Also I thought it was implied that the Skull got sent through the same tesseract or wormhole or whatever that Loki went to. I wouldn't be surprised if Loki mentioned running into him when he encounters the Avengers in the movie.

I wonder if this is 2011 SDCC. I ask cause last time I went in '08 I remember this gal. Unless it was DragonCon, point is she's been making the Con circuit. I saw her dressed as Kill Bill, Supergirl and Catwoman for 3 of the 4 days.​

No. Of course, it's not addressed in the comics either.

The cosmic cube appeared to create a bifrost effect, but it looked more like the bifrost functioning correctly than the wormhole that Loki traveled through at the end of Thor.

Presumably Red Skull is lost somewhere in the nine worlds, but not Asgard, at least I doubt it. Some contact with Loki does seem like a possibility, but probably this is just a way of getting the Red Skull to the modern era for sequels.

Like I said, they can do the "Captain America no more!" storyline, and with the Skull being both presumed dead AND last seen in the 40s it'd be an extra surprise when he turns up as the mastermind behind the "Get rid of Cap" plot.

there was a scene in the Thor script that was cut where Darcy asks how come the Asgardians are speaking "our language", Fandral replies "My dear, your speaking our language."

of course that's a bit BS what with linguistic drift over a few centuries changing Old English to Middle English to Modern English and the drift between American and British English in only 2 1/2 centuries....
