Well, technically if he does build a bed, it will be harder for him to survive since beds don't make any aggros disappear, unless he stays inside the whole time. So, I don't think a bed's the best option.

10 minutes in your world and I already found a seam of diamonds. It took me weeks in my world! :alienblush:

Your world sets off my OCD with all those floating tree trunks and grass patches inside the castle. Also, as I was climbing the tower I freaked out when I heard the hissing sound from that faulty redstone circuit.

I'd upload my world but it's over 50MB when compressed and I'd need to put direction signs everywhere as the tunnels under my main fortress are a maze that only I understand.

Hah! Yeah, my one castle (Freeson) just has grass on the ground floor. I might eventually get around to putting in a proper floor.

The floating tree trunks were from what was once eternal fire. They lit things up at night. :( There's a huge forest that was burned down by surface lava and floating trunks are all that's left.

Yeah, that's like the first thing I do when I build a castle. I have to dig up the grass\dirt and replace it with cobblestone, even before building a second floor, or else I'm severely bothered.

Incidentally, you need to use more torches. I ran into a zombie in Castle Freeson, and later a spider in your mine. I don't like encountering mobs when I'm inside, damn it! :scream: :p

I'm kind of an idiot when it comes to game modding. I always worry I'm going to break something. Where do I unzip the files to load your world Robert?

Well, I would have mentioned it but I wanted to keep spoilers to a minimum. :)

Hah, well fair enough, Cutter. Just keep your eyes closed while reading the thread then ;)

 I build on Peaceful. I'll take care of the lighting issues in habitable areas eventually.

That explains it then. :p I usually play on Easy, as I don't particularly care for fighting mobs, but I like the motivation of having them out there.

If anyone is interested, here's my world. (Hopefully, that link will work.)

You should start out on the top of the tower at Fortress Godfrey, which is the hub of my world. From there you will have access to a tunnel and road network that links all my bases and outposts on the main landmass, and I've put up signs along all routes to help you find everything worth mentioning. There are three outposts off the main landmass that aren't connected, but you can get to these using my Nether portal network which should be perfectly safe so long as you stay in my tunnels.

Here's a giant labelled map to put it all in context.

Totally gonna have to check that out, Ben.

By the way, the little script I wrote to automate uploading is pretty simple and I'd be happy to share it with you guys if you want it. It's just a batch file and an FTP script, and then you use the Windows scheduler to have it run as frequently as you want.

    Sure Robert, go for it!

Finally figured out how to get the download to run and am currently hiding in a cave in the wilderness. I like how theres plenty of iron near the surface, and the assortment of sheer drops into hidden caves have sure kept me on my toes. This definately deserves more exploration.

I'll give yours a look soon Ben.

I may have to try uploading mine.

I took a look around your world last night, TGB, and I am impressed! I especially liked Mount Vulcan, that's just a cool place to hang out. :D

I've been playing for a while, have spent more time on building my fortress of doom than mining. Pics here. If it doesn't work, blame the fact that I don't know dizzle about photobucket

In my pics are the exterior part to my house (yes, that light from the stone part is a lava incinerator room. U jealous? Probably not, you probably all have lava too); my lit waterfall (some kind of physics bug left a gap between two source blocks at the top, allowing me to place a torch there); the entrance to my mine in addition to my main "House" area; and my lame hand-made Cheetahmen skin.

The Cheetahmen were supposed to be a competitor to the Ninja Turtles, but they didn't really get off the ground. Their game was hilarious, as in hilariously terrible.

What do you need to run it? Because I caught the Minecraft bug the other night and spent yesterday building a bridge over to my monster trap, and now I have a hankering to convert that area into some sort of containment facility with walls and warning signs everywhere about the dangers of a containment breach. The world I uploaded is already out of date. :alienblush:

Thanks. There's a great view from Mount Vulcan alright. It's still a work in progress, I intend to add a few more floors, a dock, proper rail access and some sort of connection to the lavaflow lower in the mountain, but I have a very piecemeal attitude when it comes to Minecraft and rarely stick at a single project for long. I'm sure I'll come back to it later.

A nice start. But I refuse to build in snow biomes until notch fixes it so that snow and ice reform after a couple of minutes. 5 months later and that still hasn't been fixed. :(

Nothing other than Windows. I just have a batch file and it uses the command-line FTP client built into Windows. I'm sure it would be easy as pie to write a *nix shell script to do something similar, too.

All you need is an FTP server where you have permission to upload stuff.

I saw a video with a snow trap that took advantage of the fact that snow would cover up the pressure plate and thought "Snow's cool! Notch wouldn't have taken that away!" And started hacking away at the side of a hill. Now all I have left is some uneven patches of snow and a lake of ice to prove that I built a house in the snow. Much sadness :(

Yeah, I'd love to have reforming snow and ice. I always live in fear of falling through a hole in the ice and drowning.

Also, regenerating tree leaves, flowers and mushrooms that multiply when you plant them...and I'd really like to see falling snow come back. Oooh I could make a list.

It's a bit ridiculous that snow hasn't been added back in yet. I think there are even some mods out there that basically cause constant snowfall in snow biomes and they work. It can't be that insanely difficult, it's likely just a low priority.

Back before the big halloween update, there was something like a 10% chance that any new world would be a snow world where it snowed all the time and ground-snow and ice reformed within a matter of minutes. But once biomes were introduced, not only did it not snow in snow biomes, but it also stopped snowing in former snow worlds. Notch said that he was going to fix that but it has been 5 months now and nothing has happened with it. :(

The more I think about it, that halloween update was a bad idea because he tried to do too much and did none of it very well. Biomes still don't work properly, they're too small and the biome-specific plants and mobs still haven't materialised, except for different shapes of tree and leaves. Nether portals never worked properly without spending 20 minutes fixing them and the update that Notch claims fixed that problem managed to make it worse. The new mob-spawning mechanism was so terrible that Notch reverted to the old one in a matter of days. Fish were supposed to be an actual mob, but they ended up being an inventory item. Making torches a temporary light-source never happened.

He should have spent the next few weeks following that update fixing everything that was wrong with it, but instead people kept complaining about survival multiplayer and he focused his attention there. Since then, it seems like Jeb has been the guy working on adding new stuff to singleplayer.

My first time in a snow biome I broke the ice and dived in. Stupid mistake. By the time that I made my way out I only had 1 heart left. :alienblush:
