Good point. Admiral Janeway was an absolute fox! She's one of the bright points of an episode I pretty much hate.

I'm still surprised that she was the initial choice for Janeway.

I liked the constrasts between the two Janeways.

Let us reflect on the years forever lost to us, Admiral Janeway's years in the original timeline before she traveled back and fucked it over forever.

I'd have liked to see something covering those years, since they had a profound effect on her, and the timeline by extension.

BTW, I found this quote from the funeral scene (I forget which book) for Janeway:

Oh we are keeping it OPEN all right, open and bleeding all over the internet do you hear that peterfuckingdavid?!?!??!

As I recall Chakotay was standing at the edge of the crowd during that scene having an emo attack which he then continued to have for at least 2 books.

I'm still self-enforcing that embargo on his books.

    P-retty much.

I liked the way the new Voyager novels were/are written, but I wasn't all that in favor of Chakotay.

I've read a couple fanfics about the "missing years." One was well-written, IIRC, but it was absolutely, unequivocally dark. Like, extremely dark. But it actually sort of fit into canon.

That quote is from Full Circle, by the by. It's Phoebe Janeway's speech at the funeral. Peter David wouldn't have written something nice like that for Janeway. Plus I'm sort of wondering if that was Kirsten Beyer's way of inserting her opinion on the whole debacle.

I got very very weary of him. Not that it didn't sort of fit his character, potentially. It's the dwelling on the angst which Treklit sometimes does really badly IMHO.

The missing years would make a great book, with the right writer. Sometimes they are really excellent when they can sidestep canon/timeline constrictions and just have at it.

    I'm scared now.

I had thought it was from Full Circle. I knew for a fact it wasn't Before Dishonor.

And I would love it if that were Kirsten Beyer's opinion. :D

Definitely agreed, particularly with the dwelling. I mean, jeezus...

Hearing about Janeway dying in the novels pissed me off as much as Chewie dying in NJO. This is why I refuse to read it!

The only times Janeway died were alternate universe versions like, Timeless, Year of Hell, and Endgame. Janeway Prime is alive and well!!!

If it didn't happen on screen, it didn't happen. F/U Peter David.

    Agree.

I "grew up" at the nebula, and peeked in here a few times during Voy's run, but usually ran from the site screaming in terror.

When I found Jim's Delta Blues site and his reviews... well, I was in heaven! :bolian:

And to all you gals jealous of Naomi because you were her age when Voyager started, I have just one thing to say.

    "Whippersnappers!"

Although it is the official non-alcoholic beverage of choice for this thread, had J. Ashmore politely demurred, I was counting on y'all to offer her a nice Gin Rickey.

    In other news:

LMAO. I didn't read the above post closely and thought it was Teacake saying "whippersnappers". I was about to make a crack about her sounding like J'Rulz, then I looked again and saw that it WAS J'Rulz.:lol::lol:

You beat me to this, but then I'm very much in the wrong timezone for this discussion, which is why I lurk here.

Madzilla, welcome! I must have about a gazillion...well, ok, a few dozen of your icons. I've been on LJ for about 10 years and am completely incapable of making icons, so I, erm, "borrow" them from others. ;)

Edit: Before Dishonor should be banished from the universe. I made the mistake of buying it and reading it all the way through. It was promptly donated to some poor, unsuspecting charity shop, and my opinion of Peter David went down the toilet.

I agree with what Valeris said, at least I think she said it maybe it was teacake, if Janeway was going to die in the novels it should have been someone who had respect for her. Not in a fanboy rage because he didn't think Janeway deserved to be an Admiral over Picard or anything(hey, reference to that other Janeway thread about her becoming an admiral)

    Janeway and Tuvok, FTW!!!!!!!! :D

Hey, I'm cool with Coffee-Flavored Koolaid or Gin Rickey's! Heck, I'll take seven, please!

I agree with everything that's been said about Before Dishonor. Peter David is officially shunned in my life. Peter who? When I get Q-Squared I'll just pretend I can't read the front cover and just assume a nice, lovely person wrote that book. Not some Earth-shattering, killing-off-my-hero jerk. Thanks Peter David, thanks.

At least she's off with Lady Q/K'Ehleyr.
